Looking for mid wing easy flyer

I am in a rut with high wing type aircraft , Tyro 150 , 100 , Cubs , Slow sticks , Pico Moths , Telemasters , SA Squirt 400 , ect . I do have a SA 400 shaft that is my current favorite Parkflyer.

Looking for a mid wing or maybe even a low wing easy flyer . I don't 3D , 35" to 40"ish wing span , that will fly with 3 or 4 cell A123 1100 mah cells . Prefer balsa build but foam or ARF not out of the question . I have tried some of the 3D type planes of this type with out much success. Suggestions ?

Look at stevensaero's line.

I have an RV-4 that's really fun and easy to fly. The thick profile makes it hard to stall and real gentle with the dihedral. I think it'll fit your range. I flew it with a 3S 1050 mA lipo with a brushless A20-20, and I had waaaay more power than I needed.

Otherwise, check the stuff at laserarts.com, they got pretty good stuff too.

Sig Little Extra?

I just started flying mine and it flies great and easy as long as you turn the rate down. They give you instructions on the E conversion.

Also the Mountain Models EZ Scout.

The Formosa or Formosa 2 are good mid-wings. I fly my Ultrafly PC-9 more. It has a slower airfoil and slows down real nice and doesn't tip stall hardly at all. If built with a small outrunner it makes a nice parkflyer. Heres a link, check out the video. Butch

Mountain Models: The EZ Sport (the EZ Scout is a shoulder wing - see bartricky's avatar - that's an EZ Scout) or Switchback Sport. Both are smaller than your SHAFT 400. Bigger - along the lines of the Tyro 150 - is the Switchback Senior. Probably that's too big for your preferred battery, though. Also there is the EVA Sport.

The Stevens RV-4 has been one I've wanted to do for some time...but haven't yet. All of the SA and MM planes I've ever had were great flyers.

Interesting choices , I have eyed the RV-4. Reminds my of the Hyperion Cap 232 10e I had . My son even found it to be"twitchy" and he has way better skills than me .

I thought the the Sig Little Extra was out of production, will have to look again .

Thanks guys .

The RV-4 is anything but twitchy... Maybe they modified the kit?

It is responsive, but I wouldn't call it twitchy. I had a fun time with it, just decided it was time to upgrade, and stripped the servos for another mount (P-51 from laserarts).

Good luck with whichever way you want to go, I flew a friend's switchback, and I'd say the RV is the same, but more pleasing to the eye, and maybe a tad bigger.

Oh, no worries, they are similar in design, a friend of mine had the Cap in the same class, but it was a pattern plane, so that was, in fact, twitchy.

The wing foil is so different on the RV though, that it flies very differently. Also iirc the CAP has no dihedral, whereas the RV-4 has almost 10 degrees, which makes for a much nicer plane to fly, and like the website says "sport flying at its best". The landing gear being held by the fuse instead of the wing also helps a lot to keep the plane intact on hard landings.

Isn't it everyone's?

I read somewhere "humanity has never failed with aviation, we've never left one up there!"
