Slightly disappointed with PL6.

I got my PL6 today and have to say, I am a little disappointed about something. I got this with the intention of people able to charger some 18650 Li ion batteries as well as lipos.

I have 5 x 3400mAh 18650s. I would like to charge them in parallel at 1C. Which would be 17A. But it seems I can only charge at a max of 2A. Even if I were to charge only 1 battery... it would still take well over an hour to charge. Am I missing something here?

Use the high power preset. Good for up to 40 amps with the appropriate power supply. You will need a balance connector, regardless of cell count. Also you need to unleash the power by increasing power supply limit for a value appropriate for your supply.

I have made a cradle using the 18650 holders on fleabay. They are setup to charge in parallel. Should I pull this apart and instead have it charge in series instead?

So in the case of 4 batteries, I would charge it as a 4s 3400mah battery?

You can use the parallel box. No need to undo it. Just add a balance cable to it. Wire it as a 1s. Pins 1 and 2 for JST-XH wiring mode, Pins 1 and 9 for FMA wiring mode. The balance cable is not for balancing. Its for cell count detection.

Just make sure that your battery holders can handle the current. Most cannot do much more than 1 amp.

Ok.

So this cable will work? Just snip the end off.

Then the red wired gets soldered into the positive battery lead and black into the negative battery lead

It wiring depends on which wiring mode you using. Details in post above.

What I do is remove the extra wires from the connector and save them. You can use them for other projects later. Its also a lot cleaner than sniping wires and leaving the ends exposed in the connector. The white connector has some little taps. I use the tip of push pin to gently lift them up. Give the wire a tug and they'll come out.

Thanks. That makes things more clear.

I have another question about the PL6 and dont want to open a new thread.

My batteries always show .05 V lower on my DMM than it shows on my PL6.

I set the charge to 4.2V and they come out as 4.15V. This was tested using older and brand new hyperion g3 cx mCPx batteries.

Does this mean it isnt calibrated properly? I would prefer not to have to always set the charge voltage to 0.05V more than I want all the time.

Some voltage sagging after the charge has finished is normal. Especial for older cells or when using a charge termination setting of C/10 or higher. Have you tried putting the cells back on the charger in MONITOR mode to see if they agree with the DVM?

I have not tried that. I will give that a shot when I get a chance.

My concern isn't really the 4.15v when it should be 4.20v. My concern is when I try to storage charge them. It seems to vary quite a bit. I try to get the voltage between 3.80v and 3.85v but the voltage seems to vary by up to 0.1v

When I started out in the hobby I picked up a accucel 6 and 6 of these hyperion batteries. However I wasn't familiar with proper storage techniques and let them sit for months fully charged and now have significantly less punch and flight time. So now I picked up a good charger and some new batteries and wish it was more accurate with what it charged too

You may see the accuracy increase with the addition of a balance cable.
