50% dick's dream

so far i got a fuse. shooting for 17 inch WS. r415 and hk5320 servos.

plans from this site:
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/

dont have no pics right now, but will get some up soon.

edit: pics up! yes, im a japanese tissue whore.
this is shaping up as a twin pusher, 44m motors. WS is 17 inches. thrust is 17 grams each motor, so in the 30 gram thrust area. also my target (wish?) AUW.
r415 and hk5320 servo.

got the fuse almost done. ill run the controls later, push pull cables.

sealed the fuse tissue with hairspray. will have to redo the vertical stab, warped.

Have you tried heating the vertical stab with a hairdryer, twisting it to the correct shape and holding it there till it cools? Works most of the time.

fuse, part II

the rudder tissue delaminated, so i glued it again and soaked it with water and clamped it again.

got the horizontal stab mounted and glued, sprayed the stab with hairspray (from now on, 'sealant')

picture of my donor plane. (too fast, too much torque, no fun to fly.)
might be adding alierons (probly will).

Ailerons will be cool. Are you plan on using dihedral?

How about some flaps too? Something like so...

hmmm, got to think about that one. i can run flaps, but that means i only can fly one plane...

i just dont know!

edit: dehidral, yes. some, enough to fly its self in calm days. i use ailerons to fight the wind.

got one wing half done. decided on the ar6400. still might go single motor. push pull cables. id love CF push rod to save weight, but dont have it right now.

screwed up on the wing and ended up 'inventing' some parts of it. i really should have elimnated half the ribs, anyways. scaling down by half, means weight goes down to 1/4, so you usualy end up stronger scalwise than the origonal.

I hadn't realized that you were considering making it a twin. That would definitely be interesting to see.

Looking forward to seeing your radio installation as well!

twin mostly because i have no single motor big enough. the disscusion me and my wife had was performance ever looks. that means twin 44mm 2(inch) motors facing backwards... still dont like that. id rather have twin 2.5 inch props facing forward. but then id get 28 gram thrust, vs 36 for the twin 44mm pushers.

still might just order a brand new p51 motor.

edit: im not investing too much time or effort into this one. ive never had a balsa plane fly longer than a few seconds, so im kinda hedging my bets here with the emotional investment.

edit2: 12 grams so far. one naked wing, rx,servo, esc, tail feathers, half convered fuse.
