Help!
New JW instructions

JW kits ship with the original instructions from way back when. I have been contemplating generating newly updated instructions but every time I sit down to do it I realize that the simplicity of the original build is hard to improve upon. There are a zillion ways to build a foam plane, but there is no "right way".

I have also considered having instructions with more photos and to have them as download only. Some people won't mind this while others will.

Not everyone follows the instructions. Others have never built foam and follow the instructions verbatim.

The easiest thing for me to do is to do nothing. But I really want to provide improved instructions for those who need it. With more modern building techniques and materials available (White Gorilla Glue for example), at the very least a minor update to the instructions is over due.

I see so many beautiful builds and so many clever build techniques. I suppose I would like input from anyone willing to give ideas on how to improve things.

I found that getting the original instructions was not necessary. They seemed so dated that I did not use them at all.

The threads and blogs here provide great, up-to-date methods. The links and info on your website also point us in the right direction.

I agree that they are a bit dated. It gives a perspective on how far build techniques have advanced. Thank you for the feedback, it is very helpful.

For me personally, I relied on the instructions alot since I was new to building. I could see there being a couple revisions to make the process a little easier. Pictures/diagrams area always a plus.

Thank you for the feedback. I know that people new to foam and new to the JW will rely on the instructions. I have built so many foamies now that I forget what it is like to get the first one done. Techniques that I can do in my sleep would have been impossible on a first foamy. I think what I will do is start a new set of instructions and post any progress in here for peer review. I like the simplicity of the stock build, but just want to update it with some of the superior materials and build techniques we have today that any beginning foam builder can do.

Hi Aaron I really like the new kits so far I think the instructions are good it shows basic diagrams. I can follow it step by step and the parts are great quality. There are lots of ways one could build it depending on where they fly, how much wind they have, or how fast they want to go the build goes quick especially with new stuff.

Draft Instructions attached

I am working on instructions for the new JW 48 UL since the build is different from the normal JW. I have attached the draft here. Let me know what you guys think. I do not have sketches to accompany the instructions yet. Thanks!

I am expecting my delivery of the JW36 and the Sonic Pro to add to my growing JW arsenal (the ultimate DS foamies on earth)and though I have not seen the forthcoming instructions it seems these will do perfectly. I definitely plan on making the JW36 a local light DS machine. Thanks Aaron, be seeing you at Kanan. Wayne

Old Bowman kit wing question.

Hey Aaron.

Do the newer JW wings have a "notch" cut out of them to accommodate the fuse?

I am rebuilding my wing and am curious.

thanks.

Gary

Here is a set of revised JW60 instructions I worked on a while back. It is far from complete.

Gary,
There is no notch. Instead, the builder can clip the back of the wing to fit the wing saddle or enlarge the wing saddle to fit the wing and/or elevons.
