cheers catfish, its rhossili. i was wondering after do people usually open both ends of the tube? so you can push the wood or the lead through? do you find the slugs will easily slide in and out, reason being if there is some glue left over, im thinking i should of checked the tube before i covered it.

Hi jimbo well you'd normally seal one end of the tube making the tube In such a way so that the ballast slugs and spacers don't fit too snug when you shake the model you should have a nice rattle.

So ive been getting my ballast tube up and running which turned out to be a bit of a pfaff. One of the slugs got stuck, so i had to open the other end to enable a wire to be inserted to push the slug through. Of course when i cut open the slot, i cit through the lousy servo wire, agghh. I hope its worth it!
Anyway my question is, shouldnt the ballast kit come with 12 slugs, i only have 11 lead slugs and 7 wooden dowel spacers. There looks to be enough space in the tube for a further slug.
Thanks all.

You should have a total of 13 slugs !! and always use an odd number of slugs so that the balance is right !

My M60s came with 12 slugs. Wouldn't you want an even number to ensure lateral balance, instead of odd??

I've had my M60 about 3 yrs now never fitted a ballast tube and everyone I know who has as either had the slugs stuck in the tube or on a very rough landing the tube along with the ballast as ripped straight through the wing wrecking the model I built mine quite heavy anyway and I made a home made ballast pouch fitted under the wing shaped to the profile two perfectly flattened pieces of lead slide snuggly in if you have a rough landing they just come off no damage at all just tape them back on, I placed them just rear of the CG they work like a charm lead weighs about 12 ounces. AUW with ballast 46 Ounces.

I'd have to agree, the tube is a real pain to get the slugs in and out. Mine is already quite heavy at 42oz, with the ballast tube it's 50plus. Just wondering if anyone has a spare slug of a model they can spare perhaps of a crashed model? Willing to pay for it of course. Otherwise I will have to cut a dowel and go with 11.
Tbh I liked the way my lighter model flew, it was just that little more fun in the lighter airs than my heavy one. Adding the tube this time was an experiment in flying weights. I still reckon a 32oz m60 is the best compromise, I'm looking forward to testing it, full of ballast when the strong winds return.

I used sand paperon the slugs until they slid in and out easily !! No problems since. The M60 is a great flier in medium, but when we go to big air ( 30 to 50 there is nothing like putting 5 or more slugs in it and watching it really rip !!! No if you use an even # of slugs the lateral balance will be off always use an odd #

I tend to fly in winds from say 15-35 mph when it starts getting up to 50-60 mph I don't bother it ceases to be fun for me getting blown all over the place so the wieght range I have is ideal and rough landings not an issue.

I agree catfish, in those winds try just adding 3 slugs. It ll really smooth out its flight and in heavy winds the more slugs the better !!!

Yeah agree 32-34 oz is a nice wieght for the M60 in the winds we are talikng about when I take the ballast out of mine and is say 15-20 mph its feels so light and agile..of course it also depends on the slope and quality of lift.
