Switchback Prop size

Switchback is almost ready!

What prop should I use? I am using the stock motor from my GWS Zero. It is the correct gear.

The search function is disabled, sorry for the possible redundant question.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the info. I had a 9070 and it looked awfully small.

APC 10x7 slo fly. Depending on your altitude, i found i liked the D gear ratio and 10x7 prop on 8 720 nimh cells, not quite as much power as the C gear ratio, but still plenty for the switchback, plus your motor lasts longer, and your batteries dont cry after each flight

So, I've seen several recommendations for APC props. I looked at one over at the LHS the other day. How do you mount one of those to the GWS prop shaft? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. But the opening diameter of the prop is too big. Is there some sort of doo-hickey that fits in there for mounting?

Dylan,

Thanks for the info. I'm in Northern Georgia and I do have the "C" gear. From what I've read I should have plenty of power, however I am concerned about frying everything. I will test the setup on the wattmeter and see how everything looks, 7 cells, 8 cells with both props. My father ran the "D" gear and his SB flew with no hints of struggle.

It seems that more power than you need is the thing these days and I have to agree that it nice to be able to throttle out of a low altitude mistake. Fast fly byís are kinda cool too.

10X8 GWS or 10X7SF APC. To mount the APC, get the little adapter set that GWS sells.....that's the simplest way. There are lots of other ways.

What are you planning to use as a battery?

BEC,

Kan950's...It's my understanding that these are a little heavy but work well. I'm open for any suggestions.

i found that the flight performance with 7 Hecells is better than 8 AAA nimh cells, and the weight isnt as much of an issue with 7 2/3A cells. i would run 7 Kan cells on either the C or D drive with the 10x7-10x8 prop. This setup is a pretty good comprimise between power and motor life, i burned up alot of speed 300 motors before i went brushless, and now that i have i take it easier on my brushed motors.

Dylwad,

I guess I'll have to break down and purchase a brushless. I'm sure there would be a great deal of info on which brushles motor is the best for the Switchback.
