Sometimes a motor will do that stuttering thing because of the prop being a load that it couldn't push through the magnetic fields at first, so it bounces back. Then the ESC sees it is going the wrong direction on the bounce back and reverses it again to get it going the right direction. On the next try the prop has sort of like a running start and then it carries through the slightly opposing magnetic field and starts. And the gear box might be contributing something to that too.
A possible solution might be a "harder" start when it applies more current to the starting forces. According to the manual for the Pheonix ESC's you choices are Very Soft, Soft, or Fast start and Soft is the default. So trying the other start settings may change things. I'd think the Fast start might be the one that would help but I would try them both to see the effect. Jack |
