Hi Tom... Thanx for the reply.. My motor mount for my pod design is adjustable , and I think since it will be flown off a runway, my first thoughts are to set the thrust angle about neutral , or maybe a half degree up.. I will see how it powers down the runway for balance and lift, and go from there.. I wonder if some of the set ups I have seen here, that are angled way back, are having troubles because of to much air getting over the tail, and not enough under it. ?? .. Ian

Hi Ian- sounds interesting. Let us know what you learn. The paved runway will help get airspeed fast. You may want to add a small nose skid to take some of the shark sniffin abuse.

Regarding your question- I think it's a few things...
A pusher engine is probally less efficient and the inexpensive setups have marginal output power. Also, most of us come to this with expectations of 3d-like power plane liftoff- which ain't gonna happen.
I've had the best continual success, on a grass field, with a 30' bunge assist. It simple and gets her in the air fast.

Also Tom,, In your pic,, your prop blades look smaller, for a higher KV motor?, Am I correct??.. My set up is configured for a 1200 kv motor, with a thrust to weight ratio of around .8 - 1.. I'am definitely putting some road rash protection under the front also , and it will have wing tip skids.............. Your plane plane looks pretty cool.

Hi Ian-
I'm on my third motor now. The stock didn't last long. I'm currently using an NTM 3548-1100kv rated for 640w@4S. The prop is a 10.5x6. It motor cost $25 or so. Also, a great $3 espritmodel(fr top model) fiberglass piece keeps the prop aligned. My bungee hook will take some of the fuse abuse (if I try a liftoff without the bungee).
Good Luck!

THAT WAS TRULY BEAUTIFUL. Sounds to me like you're one sharp cookie. Just joined this group, and You are truly a STUNNER. Are you familiar with the Zanonia designed and built by Harland Ross? My uncle by way of my dads oldest sister.
Please continue to explain wing design, as most of us aren't up to the level you appear to be.
Thanks again, Barry La Tour

Hi Meny,
I use the NTM 3548-1100 with a 10x6 prop and a 4s lipo with the factory motor pod.
Here is a link for it: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...00kv_640w.html

Good Luck!

I'm no expert- just a little concerned as it not rated as strong as the other. But, it's inexpensive so not a lot of risk.

Ideally, might be better to buy a more expensive, much stronger engine to give you more power and longer life. Anyone else wanna chime in with a better engine? 35mm diameter close to max, but could be longer than 48mm. One of the finer European manufactures?

Are you going to install that motor on a pod or in the nose?

I think that motor is similar (maybe better) that the one that comes in stock (as in mine) so it will work.

Nonetheless, I'd recommend you do some math on any online e-calc program.

Regards
