Substitute for Parkzone UM motors

I have a Parkzone UM P51, a scratch build Gmite & 2 Stevens Aero micros, all using the Parkzone UM motor & gearbox & AR6400 brick.
I seem to be getting only 15-30 flights before the motors start surging & triggering the motor cut off on the AR6400 brick. At $20 a pop to replace the motor it's getting a mite too expensive to keep throwing good money after bad not to mention it's a royal pain in the backside to get the motors out without damaging the models.

I'm more than happy with the power so not looking for an upgrade, but has anyone found a substitute that'll fit in without too much mucking about & a better life span?
Thanks.

Al

Several people found that the Solo Pro motor works well in the 1s UM planes. I haven't tried it, but there is a thread over in the Micro RTF forum that may be of help.

Also there is a BL upgrade HH is offering for the NCPX, you might have some success with that.

Hope that helps

Yep, solo pro motors are good; bit more power and seem to last longer.

Thanks guys.
I just had a look in the solo pro thread & found the micro motor warehouse which is only 45 minutes from my place.
I think I'll give his motors a try.
Regards.

I found the v911 motor to be at least as good as the solo pro motor. the v959 motor compares to the bravo sx motor.... have to change gears tho.... but at 3bucks a piece at banggood
ordered several NE yak 54 gearbaoxes lately bbut wasnt too impressed with power and lifespan compared to v9xx motors

I'd give serious thoughts to retrofitting a wee BL motor.
Yes a bit fiddly but then it only needs doing ...Once

I contemplated a gearbox for an AP-03 motor but it never made it past the CAD doodle stage. Shortage of spare time at the moment with the 3-4hour daily commute.

They actually have AP03's with a 6mm bearing tube now. They even come with a 7mm adapter ring so they should be direct fit in the stock gearboxes. The only thing you would have to do is press out the shaft and re-install it the opposite direction. The shaft length looks long enough but I'm not positive.

Way to high a kV for my liking, even for gearbox use.

I bought a couple of these with the 9t pinion.
http://micro-motor-warehouse.com/products/cl-0820-15

I've fitted one to a gearbox but haven't tried it yet in a plane.
I'll let you know how it goes once I've had a chance to test it.

go with the wl toys v959 motor 2 for arond 7 dollars at banggood . there is a lot of data buzzing around here that they re the best (strongest). and i m really happy with them. they last really long , usually my motors get decomissioned when the wire breaks, cuz they survived one or two transplantations to other airframes. after 50+ flights u usually notice a slight decrease in power but its still ok for another 100 at least. as with all coreless motors u sometimes get duds that screech of within the first 5 flights... and, i oil them before first use

what u bought is still f++++ expensive

Which of the v959 motors do you use, clockwise or anti?

You need clockwise for a gearbox.
