Nine Eagles Bravo SX Mods thread

Although this heli shares many parts with the Solo Pro, there are still some mods possible on this scale-like heli, that are not likely to be performed on the Solo Pro. So if you have a Bravo SX specific mod, this is the topic to show these!

Walter
Your mod has motivated me to want to build my own MIA/Bravo SX based heli.

I read a while ago MIA was going to make a version of their kit expecially for the Bravo SX, so there was no additional modding needed to fit it. Anyone knows more about this, if this idea has been executed?

Little howto about nav lights on Bravo Sx. (I decided to put it apart because that way I dont have to read everyday the mods topic to know if someone asks something. I receive notification on email and its easier for me:

Will add more info if requested.

Hi,
I did it - modified a Bravo SX with Blade mCP x parts to a Bravo SX collective pitch flybarless heli, ca. 19 cm rotor diameter.

Did not believe, that this heli would fly - but it does
Anyway, it is far from perfect - main problem is the main motor, it is too weak.
Edit: Weight is exactly 35 g without battery - probably a little too much for a really good and strong flight performance with the small Bravo SX main motor.

But it is possible, and work is probably not finished.

Considering that the electronics and head setup is Blade mCP X, I would call it a modded mCP x with Bravo SX parts instead, but nevertheless very nice.

SX canopy, SX main frame, SX tail, SX main motor, SX main gear - it's an SX with some mCP x parts in it.
If you put Porsche electronics into a VW beetle, it is still a VW beetle...

Nav lights on my SX. I removed the spot light pod (factory lights). Looks really cool in dark, but hard to photograph, lights smear real bad.

Finally weighed the SX CP:
It is exactly 35 g without battery.
Thats probably too much for the small Bravo SX main motor for a really good flight performance (rotor head should also be heavier than the Solo Pro / Bravo SX rotor head, maybe also a problem for the small motor).

So lets go brushless

Problem:
Not really much room for modding at the Bravo SX frame any more.
Servos fit tight between the canopy; had to take a smaller than the mCP x servo as nick servo (HK ultra micro).
Brushless motor would need more room - so motor mount would have to be cut (even for the tiny Turnigy Inrunner 1015, which maybe would not have enough power either).
But then servos would touch the canopy.

Have to think about this.
Maybe I will try 3 of the tiny HK ultra micro servos - despite the bad reviews.
Actually out of stock, and I had ordered only one for testing... (mine works fine).
Have some other tiny HK servos here, maybe I will use those.

But first brushless main motor has to work - probably will try this first in a Solo Pro and if it works well make this for the Bravo SX CP

Just got my PIC code running on PIC12f675 for my tr100 brushless attempt. If you know the frequency of the NE PWM signal i can probably make a version of the code for it.

Currently it is for 1kHz signal (less than this will need a bit of though, higher should be reasonably straight forward). Signal polarity is controlled externally with a transistor to flip the signal. Native is negative (low) for power on. The tr100 needs the inversion. This gives you a PPM signal that will drive a standard brushless controller. You need a controller that does not require a BEC (5volt standard). XP3A or similar works, the XP3A seems to have a reputation for not liking high LiPo voltage though.

Running it from an oscillator on the bench and looking at the signal on the scope it seems to work very well, hopefully try it in anger in a few days time.
