Hey guys, want to convert origingal 85in Taylorcraft to electric using either tacon 160 or 110. Want to use either 6s or 8s to convert from Saito 180. I fly at 7600ft so will be using a fairly large prop for bite. The plane weighs 14lbs now, so don't see saving much weigh with electric setup, but gotta go electric...Any suggestions would be welcome if you have actual knowlege of using these two motors...Be nice! Using the Tacon 110, 8s 6000mah battery, 20X6 APC "E" prop. Gives you about 244 ounces, 15 pounds of thrust. If you bump the prop up to 20X7 you get just over 17 pounds of thrust but you are over the rating of the motor by 5 amps.

Wow!,I'm impressed, I couldn't even find the motor in the program. Could the 160 motor be used on 8s? I'm going to use ice 100 cause I've got two. Got a couple Turnigy 400kv motors turning 18/6/10 wood props on 6s very well but on a much lighter plane. Looking for scale IMAC performance on 8s max. Pat

An easy way to test it, use the eflite motors from the drop down list.

Well it says the 160, swinging an APC 22X10, 8s well give around 334 ounces of thrust, 16 pounds at 2077 watts. It is just a touch over limit. Specs say 78 amps is the limit and this is 78.14 amps.

Hey buzz, thanks for the help! That should give me about 140 watts/lb. Pat

no disrespect but the ecal your using is wrong , its does not work nor calculate correctly.
I have tested it in the past with proven motors , props etc and hit my field numbers into the system and there totally wrong .
If you can seek out a rcu member names Kahlog , no one is better at conversions then him .
He is in the glow to electric forum and in many of the post on the "Platt Dora Purchased to Bash" , he will give you exact suggestions that are dead on
