PCM Taser F5J

Seems to be very little information (in english at least) about this glider. Or a thread...

Ive got a full carbon one on order, still havent nailed down a power system as am unsure as too what can be made to fit.

http://www.pcm.at/english/F5J/index.html

RTF weights are around the 500g mark. not bad for a 2m carbon model So its kinda like a 2m electric DLG.

Some googling dug up these -

The video is better on mute...
PCM Taser carbon (4 min 2 sec)

Anyone got one?

I kind of like it, but I'm wondering about a couple of things

I wonder if it needs four servos in the wing,, maybe I would tape them together and just use 1 servo per wing at first... see if it slows down good, and not tip stall.
I might tape the outboard aileron to the tip of the outboard wing, just to make sure.

I'm also wondering about the 2 piece wing... but since you won't be tip launching, it probably won't matter.

No taping is required, as our Taser page says:

The flaps and ailerons are supplied joined, in one piece, so the model can be setup to use two servos on flaperons, or four servos controlling the flaps and ailerons separately.

Also the ailerons positions still have a layer of glass present, which would be left in place in a flaperon model. I think the Taser is a superb electric glider, it is massively undervalued in the English speaking world.

Yup a few places do.

Mines coming from soaringcomposites/apachobby in Singapore, but -

http://www.soaringusa.com/Taser-F5J.html (no listing for the carbon version
http://www.soaringusa.com/Taser-Unpl...M-TSR-791.html

I thought skipmiller had a listing for it too, but cant find it now.

Im considering building it as a 2 servo wing, havent decided yet. Even the "heavy" full carbon builds seem to be ~550g, not exactly a heavy wingloading for a 2m model. Still, getting under 500g would be cool.

What do you think Neil?

Im still playing with ideas for a power plant, the recommended hyperion setup with a GS series motor instead is probably likely though. Is the G/GS series "glider nose" motor needed with the 22 series diameter? If a 28mm OD motor fits there may be some weight to save there?

Im really not a DLG guy, F5B and hotliners/pylon racers are more my thing so im a bit of a n00b when it comes to this sort of build Unfortunatly flying F5B models in the local park isnt very practical/politcally correct/wise, so I need something nice and quiet to look for thermals with

Im curious if It needs a 60gram motor to balance or not.

Im thinking a ZS2209-30 on a 10-11x6 with a a 3S 500 is going to be the power plant. Should save some weight on the stock setup (30-40g) and give me a few more watts

Yeah, me too. And I don't even like v-tails. And I've got two new planes for this ALES season already. And I don't like 2m either. But still...it does kinda grab ya, don't it?

Yeah, I think it could be excellent for early morning light air.
I think the original Apogee had a V-tail, but had to go to a sub fin T-tail for tip launching.

Is anyone (Neil?) able to confim I can get a standard 22 series (28mm OD) Scorperion in the nose, and have room for the motor wires?

Im going to need a 32/3mm spinner if, the only thing I can find are the offset ones hyperflight .co.uk list, so my spinner ( and probably servos) are going to have to be shipped off to the colonies

Would like to start ordering all the bits, but until I know what motor fits im a little stuck

Scratch the previous answer. I thought we were taking about the Scorpion 2.3 e-glider.

I will check the Taser fuselage tomorrow.
