Engine options?

Hey all, I have coming a Flite Line "lil bomb" and a Jim Walker "fire bird" vintage kits on the way - Both kits state .49 engine but I am wondering what other sizes I could consider and engine brand?

thanks

An 0.49 cubic inch engine is ten times larger than an 0.049.

You are limited, for the most part, to the range 0.049 through 0.074 for model kits that small, and the options aren't extensive. Brodak was having some that size produced for them overseas, in the Ukraine, I believe. You'll need to visit Brodak's web site to find out if those are still available.

Cox International also has lots of .049 engines.

Both of those kits are for .049s, and radial mount ones at that.

Cox Babe Bee

Cox Golden Bee

Cox Black Widow

From there on it takes a lot of mods, etc. to make it all work

See list above then. They were designed for the Cox .049 reed valve tank mount motors. Anything else requires lots of figuring.
Tons of them on eBay and at garage sales.

I'd get the most powerful radial mount Cox .049 available. And that is the Venom.

Rocket ship. The Fliteline kit has 18" span as I recall.

Yes that's correct - I am also hoping to just build the lil bomb and firebird but not be tempted into flying as ill destroy them.. Just for display I think?

Maybe the babe bee and then if flying no problems with over powering?

It will do fine. Read my comment on building and flying on the other thread. Don't sell yourself short, you can do anything you put your mind to.

I would suggest the Black Widow or Golden Bee because they will bolt on and fly. They also have "stunt vented" tanks so you can fly upside down when the time comes.
For a plane I would suggest an easy build/easy repair plane such as a SIG Skyray or one of the Black Hawk Models "hollow logs" that MANY of us learned on many years ago. All of those have sheet balsa wings that are easily repaired.

Good luck, whichever you choose.
