Hot foam funes

I hot wire and hot knife foam. What should I do not to inhale the fumes? Do you all wear a mask. My wife says I'm killing what little brains cells I have.

Yup! Looks like the fumes have already done their evil work.

Ideally, a carbon filter mask, but almost nobody wears those. Even a simple dust mask will help a little. You should at least have a fan drawing the fumes away and venting them outside. This would be true regardless of whatever mask you might be wearing.

Heck!!! we should all be wearing a dust mask while sanding, but very few people do. Even I only rarely use a mask.

I have a fume evac system I built into my hotwire table. Its just some tubing drawing the fumes through a carbon filter using a heater core fan I pulled out of a wreaked 92 Dodge Colt at my local wreaking yard.

Im going to be remaking this set up into a much smaller system with the table and power supply as one unit.

There is this guy and they also have a fixed version too.

Some guys have looked into what is in the fumes and will say its just Co2 and water vapor, but I've run a hot wire for hours and after a while my eyes started to burn. Seems like more then Co2 and water vapor to me.

And I also agree with the mask thing.

Its got to be more then CO2 and water vapor. I feel it in my eyes and in my throat after 30 minutes of cutting foam. This is the foam I'm cutting with a hot knife or wire.
