ALES in VA

Well, I fished for DLG folks in VA, and I've found I'm just about the only one nearby that's active. So lets try another soaring avenue Anyone doing/interested in/particiating in ALES/F5J in the Old Dominion? It would be cool to get some local events and flying together if there's a few folks out there who are interested.

Hi,

I'm in Hampton, VA and our club has a competition series in rural Suffolk with Radians and radian Pros with 30 sec motor runs and spot landing points. We've had 12 contests in the last couple of years, but more often there are unlimited F3J events.

I'm 1 1/4 hours from the private field we use, you're probably the same or less. Josh Glaab (ESL) coordinates for the club and he also (rarely) does DLG , but I don't know how many of our regularly participating members do also (I'm pretty new). Also don't know how many serious ALESers we have, haven't seen any other than the Radians. We usually get from 3 to 7 folks at contests, interspersed with almost monthly flying days with anything conceivable in the air - FPVs, ducted fans, gas, 3.5 M gliders, etc.

Give me a shout if any of it sounds interesting and I'll let you know the next time a fly day is agreed on (usually with only a week - 3 days notice, based on weather). I'd like to get into ALES/F5J with, possibly, a new electric fuse for a used Supra Pro I've just acquired - but won't be flying until I stop crashing my Radians!

Eric, is the club you're referring to the TMSS? If so, I am familiar with the group, actually I was just there on Saturday, but I wasn't in any sort of contact with any members to know when events were being held. I'm now included on an email list with one of the members and should start getting notified about upcoming events. If that's the group you're talking about, I hope to fly with you soon!

Kyle,

Our club is called the Hampton Roads Silent Flyers (HRSF) and we're associated with the ESL (Eastern Soaring League). Don't know TMSS, unless this is the group with a beautiful powered plane and heli site with a paved runway, ready pits and pavilions north of RT. 64 closer to Yorktown?

Cool! I havent heard of you guys before, I'll have to check it out! Is there an email group for the club? I would be interested in coming down for some events. The TMSS is another soaring club that flies out of Isle of Wight off of 460E. They mainly stick to TD, not much electric there.
