Not an FAC rule anymore. They removed that requirement a few years ago. But if you come to the Kent contest this year I will put them on :-)

Good grief that's lighter than the one my wife made (3.5 g). Hers ended up around 3.8 because it wouldn't fly without nose weight (stability started to go south when the wing was slid farther back). That setup gives her well over 2 minutes in Cat I.

Having done the wood selecting for Hope's model, I'm really in awe that you could get it down to that weight.

I spent more time hunting wood than building it.

In the early '80s, I made a Peanut Lacey out of some balsa purchased from Micro-X. I thought I was being clever by ordering some 4 lb density 1/20th square sticks. When I water shrunk the tissue, the longerons buckled under the tension. That was before I knew about pre-shrinking.

Bristol M.1C

This is my Walt Mooney designed, plans built Bristol M.1C modeled after Captain Harry Butler's "Red Devil" displayed in his home town of Minlaton, South Australia.

Jeckyl & Hyde from July 1954 Aeromodeller pre. launch, and in flight. (Malcolm Campbell pic.)

Waited too long for lift and an old motor fitted into it lost it's oomph. It ended up doing 174 rather than the 180 I wanted.
