Raptor Glider Pusher Jet Conversion

Just a brief description.... Pics worth a 1000 words. Hobby Lobby $9.99 Raptor Glider. Shorten wings ( cut 7"ea. ), and horizontal stab (cut 2" ea. end) (shaped cut pcs for winglets), shape & sand fuse. Carbon fiber tube in bottom of fuse (optional), flat carbon fiber in wings and horizontal stab (a must). Hot wire hatch cover, install aileron servos, hog out fuse. for battery, esc & servo. Install elevator push rod, drill 1/2" dia hole in fuse for motor wires / cooling exhaust and epoxy 3/8" square stock for motor. (leave long and cut to final length after elevator is installed.) 1/4"x1" tapered balsa ailerons and 5/16" x 1 1/4" w/ metal gear servo for elevator. I used popsicle stick in front with center and rear magnets hatch hold down. Make front cooling inlet holes (not pictured), finish installing radio and paint and have fun. Turnigy D2826/6 2200KV motor w/ 7x5 prop, 60 Amp Esc, 3S 2200mah battery. CG approx. 2 3/4" back from LE root. Plane screams thru the sky like on rails. THIS IS NOT A BEGINNERS AIRPLANE . Use low throw rates "Cause it don't take much at 90+MPH"

Flys pretty good but some wag at high speeds. Going to remove winglets to see if that is the problem.

Man you did a amazing job on that plane! I haven't built a raptor yet "only 5-6 titans". Do you by chance have a flight video?

Thanks Bentucky for the kind words. I have about a dozen flights on it but no video. I must admit that I am a "fair weather flyer" and it's just been too hot to go fly. I have done a couple Titans also and both style fly like they are on rails. Couple guys I fly with also made pusher conversions and it's a blast with three of them screaming thru the air. When it cools off I'll try to get some video.

I built one with stock wings RET. A mad thrust 50mm mounted on the top. Didn't bother to shorten the wing. To mount the motor I wrapped it with a single layer of sheet rock tape and then wrapped with layer of black plastic plumbers tape. Previously I had pylon mounted prop.

The mad thrust motor draws 20 amps on a 3 cell lipo. Very smooth and quiet.

My intent is build up a f117 with the motor. I have two prop driven models and like how they fly.

Here is what built from the raptor clone from wallymart. I didn't get the maiden on video, because I thought it would fail... lol. Only pics I have are from after the crash.

However it did maiden very well, I found my cg was about 3 in from the t/e. This was based on a cg calculater. She flew very well ,tho she needed more aileron travel and less elevator. Unfortunately after about 4-5 laps at half throttle I made a roll to avoid some tree's at distance and lost orientation ended up inverted (which it did very well for some reason). Pulled back on the stick and she went through a tree before landing on the bank/water of a small stream. Fuse is ruined but electronics are good. (It was actually floating in the stream, lol)

My build used an orange reciever, 1450kv turnigy, multistar esc , (3) 9 gram hxt900's, 2200 zippy 3s pack. I used balsa ailerons, and fanfold for the elevator. The prop was an 8x6 semi- apc type from hk.

Sorry to see you crash your plane. I put one back together will Gorilla Glue that looked much worse than yours. Or $10 for a new Wally World Titan glider and some building time, your back in the air so don't give up. You should be able to reuse your electronics. Soak carbon fiber in Acetone and you can reuse that too. It really hurts your feelings when that happens to a balsa scratch built project or a $200-$300 ARF.
