its an early 80's Marblehead with "blacksails" wood spar/booms and probar winch.....rudder is aluminum.

its a one piece molded deck and hull, lots of rocker in the deck and tumblehome at the stern.

looks like a DUMAS BINGO....but I dont think it is because of the rocker and tumblehome

Thought the same at first, but keel and bulb are different. Forward part looks like an Epic, but obviously not a double ender.

maybe I could slip in here ? I have the same situation, got this hull from a
club member, NO markings inside the hull at all, so no documentation.
best guess is it's 70's at least, and used to be a vane boat, converted to RC.
I had one guess it might be some version of a "Cheerio III'. ????
flat deck,no tumblehome to speak of.
Am thinking about replacing the deck, and move the sail arm and rudder
servo's down below where they belong. I have an old EC-12 mast I will use on
her -should be a "high flyer" class hull.

nice lines.....what little I know about the VM highflyer class I would think she fits that class. I have a 1974 LJ50 M boat in addition to that unidentified M boat in this post.

I have seen line drawings/plans for various boats online.....you might have luck looking

or you could send the photo to the Mablehead class sec....check the AMYA website for contact info

Good idea. Stan Goodwin would know that boat. He's been the M class secretary for over 30 years I think.

and towards that end, I started ripping the deck off my Marblehead tonight, and
guess what I found ? some info - the following was penned onto the top of the
kingplank aft of the hatch, then varnished over to protect it -it reads........

"Built in 1973-74 + modified by Stephen Urbaniak -Mill Pond ( Ma., I think)
Design by J. Weavers "Chick-A-Pat" circa 1958"

so,I now know the design-not sure what the "+ modified" part exactly refers to,
we were assuming this was a vane boat,then converted to RC.if the RC was
done in 1973, that mean the HiTec HS-408BB that is the sail arm winch is that old too ? yikes. oh well, I know more than I did an hour ago.

I have been in touch with Earl Boebert,and he has been a great help in trying to
identify this hull,the other guys not so much.

Pretty sure it was Built by Billy Brown of Miami, FL in the late 70's or early 80's

We got three M boats from him back in the mid 80's
1. an LJ50
2. the boat pictured in this thread
3. a Soling 50

There is a M-Hull like yours in the closet of a friends place that looks strikingly similar, if not identical. I'ts totally covered with other stuff, so I can't upload a photo at this time. The tumblehome and transom shape is what is catching me.

He doesn't know what the hull is. But told me "It's a Florida boat"

So, there's your second hint toward it being a Billy Brown of Miami.

Well... if all goes as planned I'll actually end up as the owner of it, as I'm in the market for both a Vintage, and High-Flyer M. his boat is clean & ready to sail, and our club is hosting the VM Nationals this year. I have a Classic, and 2 Modern M's but nothing in the Vintage fleet. and I'd like to jump in on it if possible.
That boat, if it's the same as the one I know of qualifies in the High-Flyer division of Vintage M's.

Also, the owner of this boat I know of has, as a rough estimate, 15 Marblehead class boats. If anyone should know exactly what the boat is, it probably should be him. All he knows is that it's a fantastic boat to sail, (In his words... It's a Pissah!) But he does know, without hesitation, the valuation of the boat.

So, given all that I'd say your out of luck on making an offer on the boat.

But, I can offer that if you make a point to come to Marblehead, M.A. this summer for VM Nationals, I'll do my best to bring the hull I know of to the pond. Whether I'm the owner at that point or not, so you can compare.

Between then & now, I'll see if it can get un-covered and snap a photo or two.

Standley Goodwin is, and has been the M-Class secretary for nearly 30 years.
However, My recomendation for information on the Vintage or High-Flyer division of the M-Class would be to contact John Snow, or Earl Boebert.

I think I have seen Earl post on this forum?

Regardless, they are both heavily involved in the Vintage M's and may be a good alternate source than Standley for finding out what the boats are.
