It's good to have finally see the raven fly! I have pictures of it, but not the same as seeing it soar.

its roughly 36inch WS made of light density EPP this explains the Aeroelastic flexing but it dint bother cause I use them to my advantage as a natural Dihedral

the Dragon is at 45inch WS much heavier XPO foam with some leatherette , its also the Highlight of my 2014 builds.

guess some guys here is gonna post their 2014 year review .

Good looking plane. Are you using the legs as your tracking rudders?

Yes, There is no vertical stabilizer. Control via elevator and flaperons.

I've been following this thread for a while and I've been very impressed with all the creations on display - some really nice work.

Anyway I've been thinking of building up a dragon-looking glider and am going to approach it a little differently. I'm going to keep it as a pure glider, not expecting any sort of serious sailplane performance here, but I do have some amazingly nice hills nearby that I can climb and throw it off then fly it down. (More likely I persuade a friend to hike up with it while I sit comfortably at the bottom )

Rough plan at the moment is ~2m wingspan with kfm 3 wings shaped to look dragonlike. I want to keep it simple to start so I'll stick with rudder/elevator controls and either some dihedral or more likely turned up wingtips for the roll stability.

For the body, I want it to be quite chunky so it doesn't look like the normal skinny sailplane fuselage. Instead of sculpting solid foam, I thought I might try making spaced bulkheads like this example that I can stretch elastic fabric or some other covering over. This would also allow me to think about articulating the head and neck and having the skin stretch realistically over the hinge. The head will be some chunk of foam and balsa with some nice big horns to give it a distinctive silhouette.

I have a color scheme in mind - conventional green for the head and wings, then transitioning to red/yellow/orange at the tail, it's meant to look like a flame at the tip.

The only thing I'm struggling with is the mechanics of the tail - for 'rudder elevator' controls I'd want the whole tailplane to pivot so there's no obvious control surfaces. I've seen this exact thing done on models but I can't think how to do the pivot - it won't need to deflect much at all but will need to be very strong and sturdy. Maybe a short section of stiff wire?

I'll eventually add ailerons to the wings once I get the thing flying and as I said I think a moving head would be a nice touch.

Humm tail looks way too small, unless you set it up like a flying wing. I recommend enlarge tail area to somewheres around 20% of wing area
