Hello all,

My youngest !

- span : 660mm
- weight : 630grs
- motor : 1400kv
- accus : 3s 1500mAh

Transfer test Depron / Coro with a single sheet for the wing !
I think replacing the electric motor with a .15 nitro ...This should be interesting!

Soon a vidéo

That is a really cool plane. Can you point me to a set of plans for it?

Construction is all 2mm correx with 3mm foamboard formers. Wings are a simple curved plate and ply is only used for the wing ribs, struts and firewall. Cockpit coaming is the plastic insulation from electrical wire. Radiator and engine are painted foam. No cable ties used, but I did use duct tape for the dihedral joints, so you can call this a true SPAD!

AUW is a shade over 700g (the wheels and scale details just keep on adding weight!). Power is a hobbyking 2826 1400KV motor and 1300mAh Lipo.
Hi ES
I love your SE5A! What is a the wingspan and how does it fly? Do you have any build pics? Trevor

Span is 800mm IIRC. Unfortunately I did not take any build pictures, except for the 'jig' I used to get the wings properly aligned.

I've obviously never seen an SE5A fly, but this flies like I would expect a vintage plane to fly - stable and slow. I used a very old set of plans for a rubber powered model (scaled up to 800mm) and I think there is too much incidence as it needed an unsightly amount of down thrust and slight down elevator trim. If you watch the video (link below) you will see a regular porpoising that I also attribute to this....but its too much effort to try to change the incidence now.

Also, the ailerons had absolutely zero effect and I needed to double the rudder size for it to give me the sensitivity I wanted....probably both effects linked to the curved plate airfoil and inherently stable design....much like the original from what I hear.

I really enjoy flying it just as the sun sets on a winter evening when there is absolutely no wind...at least 1 spectator has commented on how real it looks. Landings are the best....it has so much lift and drag that it just slowly floats in with the throttle at about 20%.

And just like the original it needs regular minor maintenance especially to the rigging wires and to touch up the paintwork!

There is a video on this page: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=54

EDIT: Oops, I see from this link that the span is 900mm

EDIT 2: Plans scaled up to 900mm attached

Piper Cub

Here's my 1.4m WS Piper Cub I built from Correx. Flies nice and steady with a Park480 motor and has plenty of lift from the Clarke-Y airfoil wigs (wire-cut foam core skinned with Correx). ps. my daughter chose the colour scheme...
