A123 Battery. Green Energy Company Bankrupt
Just heard A123 is going bankrupt? Are these the 123 batteries we buy for RC?

Yes, same battery company.
And, old news as this has been brewing for quite some time. From what I've read, the part that makes the batteries we use is going to Johnson Controls. Can anyone confirm this?
If so, it's likely a good sign that they will continue to be available in the future. |

Company was purchased by a China company in total. Was in the financial news in last few months.

Once again, read the above links. First sentence: "Waltham lithium ion battery maker A123 Systems Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in a Delaware federal court Tuesday, saying it was calling off a major deal with a Chinese auto parts conglomerate that was expected to save the firm". |

What I fail to get is how any of this recent(?) News(?) has much of anything to do with RC .
They (A123 Systems / Racing ) have not manufactured cells which we use in years now. Charles |

are the ones being sold on ebay etc made elsewhere(under license), old stock or counterfeit ?
I have some I made up to use in my cordless drill and they work fine. |

Recent in that they filed for chapter 11 yesterday, and announced a sale to johnson controls (also new).
Tons of people are using the A123 batteries in RC... |

Gents, aside from the political hysteria, the material impact of A123's automotive Li-Ion MFG plants tanking here in the US has no impact on or connection with the ongoing overseas production of the A123 LiFe cells we've been using in the assembly of our A123 LiFe Packs for the last 5 years. My production PO's are still in force, shipments are still on schedule, quality of the product remains the best in the industry.
