Build Log
Shumate T-38 Talon 225%

I've been away from rcgroups and RC for a while. I sold my house and had to pack all of my stuff in boxes and put in storage. I just haven't had the time or the space to build, so it's remained in storage for about 2 years now. Lately my stress level has been through the roof (thank you Obama!), so I decided it was time to build again. That always seemed to get my mind off of everything.

I started this build this week. It's a T-38 Talon from Jetset44 plans. I'm going to use this plan for the most part, but I'm going to try to make it look as scale as possible. My plans are to use 2x90mm edf units, but this is my first edf build so that may change. I'm estimating the weight to be somewhere around 15 - 18 lbs when complete (without batteries), but who knows. We'll see!

I'm not very good at blogging, so just look at the pictures and wish me luck...lol

Thanks guys! Cooler, I know what you're saying. That's actually where I got the idea. He built one awesome T-38, but I'm nowhere near the builder he is, so I'm sure it won't be compared..lol

I'm looking at using styrospray, but I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm not all that great with fiberglass and I really don't like using it. I own a painting company and I'm good with sprayers, so the styrospray really appeals to me. We'll see!

If any of the experts have a suggestion on a power system, I'm all ears.

Going with 2-90's, what are you looking at -- single 6s, or something bigger, like 8s to 12s set-up ea.?

As for fans, depends on your budget, but I like the Jetfan.

The plane it self won't cost that much, but your components will!!

The ones that I was looking at are set up for 6S (http://www.ebay.com/itm/261375936568...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT), but like I said, I don't know a lot about EDF units. I'm gonna have to depend on you guys to help me out with that. I know how to wire them up, but that's about it.

If your going with the CS fans, look at these from X-flight-- http://www.x-flight.com.hk/index.php...cat0=4&lang=en They also have the inrunners motors too. What Kv???

But I think these ones have the better rotors. I was never that thrilled about the CS fans--( although never had one) first ones out had a tendency to explode and they wouldn't do 12s. I understand the newer rotors are much better. Check out the thread on the CS 90 12 blade in the Talk forum, may have to do a search. Good advice for the right 6s motor. I don't think I'd ever buy a fan off E-Bay, to many other good vendors to buy from..

I'm sure you have this all figured out, but for those of us who don't know, how about some projected specs?

WS. L. AUW, gear, no gear, retracts or fixed , flying stab or just elevators, flaps or not?? Little stuff like that.
