I got one of the dev boards today, so I now have everything I need to start work. Unfortunately, there are some reliability issues in Deviation that I need to address first. Stay tuned.

Did set up the 8S with Deviation TX - It randomly restarts, when setting a BIND ID different from default 123456

Anybody else have come this far?

You mean to rip out the electronics and replace with a new STM32 based board?
It depends on the internals. I'd need to see some pics of what is inside to be able to answer that.

I found a picture labeled Hobbyking 6Ch Transmitter. Guess it's not the orange one mentionend above, but could probably have similiar electronics.

But on the other hand, a well known Turnigy 9x is much cheaper and could do as well.

Replacement boards have already been built, but well at a certain cost:

I am fascinated by the deviationTX and plan to buy a Devo radio. Price aside, what radio should I buy between Devo 10 and Devo 8s.

Now I use a JR9303 DSM2 but I need a new radio because the memory is full.

How many channels do you need? 8S can go upto 12, by mapping trim buttons.

I'm happy with my Devo 10, since I don't need the color screen.

I have both a Devo8 and Devo10.
The Devo8 has a pretty screen and touch interface, with 320x240 resolution, but the display is very hard to read outdoors. this can be alleviated to some extent by using high-contrast themes.
The Devo10 is only B/W, and the screen is only 128x64 (but the screen is easily read outdoors). When running Deviation, what this means is that it is easier to configure the Devo8 than the Devo10.
The Devo10 has 2 extra analog dials which can be useful, but you are unlikely to miss much for normal 6ch flight.
Personally, I think the Devo10 has better bang for your buck, but I much prefer developing Deviation on the Devo8.

Lastly, be aware that Deviation has a very steep learning curve. It is unlike any producton tx (though somewhat similar to Er9x), and many people are discuraged before mastering it. suvsuv is developing an alternate interface for Deviation which will make it feel much more familiar, but that interface will only be available on the Devo10 initially.

I also have the Devo 10 and like it very much. I also have a Dx8 which is a very nice radio as well, but I'm to the point now that if I ever get used to the programming in Deviation (suvsuv's mod is looking promising, I like it, more traditional look and feel for us simple minded folks), and it proves to be a completly stable "platform", I will sell my Dx8. The original programming on the 10, I find to be very similar in look and feel to the Dx8, if you understand one, you'll have no problem with the other. Like PB said, Deviation is another animal that needs to be tamed.

Thank you for all the replies. I prefer the B&W screen. My models are helicopters and gliders. Neither Devo 10 or Devo 8s look to have glider friendly features and I think it will be a challenge to do glider programs for Devo (on ER9x it is done). Do I lose anything beside some switches going with Devo 6s (I like Devo6 style antenna) ? I don't use more than 7 channels.

I hope Devo hacking will continue for the long run. I am not interested in Walkera software because I have only DSM2/DSMx receivers (OK, I'll have one Walkera with the radio). I love to learn a new radio software like deviation, no hurry, the JR9303 is serving me well.

A small side question; do Devo 10 balance nicely on the neckstrap ?

And of course thank you PhracturedBlue and gang for the fantastic work.

No, it doesn't, you need an extra adapter.
