3D Fan Fold 3DX, Ultimate Bipe and Yak54...V4

Hey guys,

I figured I'd start the new thread over here. I do want to take this opportunity to say thanks for all of your support and kind words! When I started this thread way back when, I had no idea these little fan fold flyers would generate the amount interest they have. It's pretty overwhelming when I actualy sit back and think about it. Here are the links to the previous 3 threads. There is a HUGE amount of info in these threads!

I'll also start this thread off with some insight on where I and Foamy Factory Models will go from here.

3DX - Updated plans with some major modifications to improve high alpha, knife edge, etc.

30" Ultimate Bipe - Updated plans with mods to get rid of the major coupling probs in knife edge. Upper wing is lowered a bit and neg. incedence on top wing. Test model is being built now with changes.

40" Ultimate - plans will be updated with changes from 30" version

Yak 54 - Plans are being finalized with the possibility of a 40" version to be included.

Lots of new models on the burner too!

My biggest enemy right now is time. Unfortunately, I don't have the amount of time available that I would like to be able to devote to my projects. With that been said, I do have big plans for the future and will "crank 'em out" as quickly as possible! Remember, airplane design is an evolutionary process, and I'm always open to suggestion on how I can improve these models.

I just found out that I exceeded my 50GB bandwidth for the month... 50gb... go figure... I need to move the videos to my other server... Oh well, it'll be back up Nov. 1st

I'll post when the plans are updated. 30" UB will be ready sometime in the next week or so...

Yes, I am really looking forward for the plans of Yak 54!
Every day I say myself: "should I start building 3DX today
or should I wait for Yak ... "

I guess that Yak is supposed to fly better than 3DX,
am I right?

Tim...did you make it to the big bird meet in benbrook this past weekend? we looked for you saturday, but never saw ya...

got a local TOC guy here that would love to fly the yak and give his input...he flew mikey's tribute this weekend and loved it...

looks like he will be a foam convert as well!

I am trying to find a good substitute for the razor motors.
I am thinking about Astro 010 ten turn. What (cheap) gear
box should I use? I prefer to use it with GWS prop but
didn't find any GWS gear box that will accept the motor
and will have 6.6:1 ratio ...

Is there anybody having Astro 0101 for 3DX? What
gearbox do you use?

That TOC guy was good. He did a one roll rolling circle with my Tribute, along with lots of torque rolling and regular rolling circles.

Have you checked Aeromicro http://www.aeromicro.com/Astro010GB.htm ?

I know it doesn't state teh 6.6:1 gear ratio but since it is a standard ratio it should work. You just might need to get a different pinion and spur along with the box.

Also, I have been looking really hard at the EPS 400 gearbox. I know the 400 motor is larger in diameter than the 300 and 350's. Could the AF 010 fit in that gearbox? I have two AF 010's on order from PFM. When they arrive, I will see about getting an EPS 400 gearbox and see for myself.

I believe it takes a little more than 1 sheet of 13x39 to build each. To be safe figure on two sheets for each plane.
