source for mega gearbox pinions

I am referring to the larger mega gearboxes for the 22/30/x series of motors. I can't find a source for the pinions. I would like to change a 5:1 gearbox to a 4:1 or even a 3.5:1 Thanks for the help.

If it's the planetary gearbox Jay, I don't believe you can change the ratio.

that is NOT what I wanted to hear... The ONLY way I can make the setup I have work is if I use a 20" folder with this motor... And 24 cells...

for what it's worth... I already broke the mega 22/30/2 in, using the traditional water break in method...

3:1 would be fine, but mega only anounces the 3.5, 4, and 5 to 1 ratios. Well at least that's all I have been able to find.

Well, it just so happens that I've got a used VMG 3:1 that's not doing anything.

You could have it to your door for $30

that's an offset gearbox right? And can it handle 700 watts? And will the pinion fit a 5mm shaft? Remember this is the bigger mega...

Yes, offset, rated at 600W, and 5mm pinion shaft.
Actually, 22 series is a 'mid' size, 45s are much bigger

I use to run it with a 22/30/3, 10 cells and a 16X14 I believe.

FWIW, I've used THREE of the VMG 3:1 at around 900 watts with a 20/30/2-18cells-13x8 3 blade which seemed to work fine. Why three GBs? Well the prop shaft is not hardened steel and will bend rather than break a Master Airscrew prop from a prop strike (yep, my fault). Two other unfavorable comments would be: 1) the main gear bell is attached to the motor adaptor with 2 screws located 180 apart, and all of mine would rock back-n-forth. Not great for the gear mesh. Fixed the problem by securing the GB and motor both. 2) The two main bearing are a press fit and some weak Loctite between bearings-to-housing and bearings-to-shaft. On all three GBs the shaft came loose. Once without notice allowing the main gear bell to wear against the pinion. And on one the bearings were loose in the housing too. Fixed with green 'shaft' Loctite.

Two of the VMGs could have bought one of the MEGA planetary that does have a hardened shaft. Would I buy another one? Yep, but only for a folding prop setup. The other issues are easy enough to address.
