OMM Opto brushless conversion mod..revised by Jesolins

okay here is a detailed Power point version of the OMM Opto isolator brushless conversion mod applied to the Chinaboard / X-base by Jesolins

This diagram was revised by Jesolins and approved
I hope it helps anyone who wants to go brushless at an affordable price just like me hehe

Thank you very much Jesolins for your support and for revising the diagram

After looking at some photos .. yes chinaboard and the X-base both have the same hole spacing

any of them can be mounted in the original frame, X-CSM, and the Q4

Different size, weight ... here is an example ... the bergs are tiny!

Should the TX/RX crystal be the same brand or I can use different brand names ??

because If I use the standard Esky TX which I believe it uses standard size crystals I should get the berg micro crystal for the berg 4L receiver matching the TX frequency ... do you think they will work together .... here is how it looks like

but of course they will be 72.170 mhz because the berg is only 72 mhz and 72.170 mhz exactly to match my 72mhz Esky TX

What do you think ??

Kahled,
The photo you attached of the crystals are for 35mhz. If you are trying to match your Esky TX's 72.170mhz crystal, it would be a Berg channel 18 receive crystal for that freq. The Berg has a red light that will go out if it is connected with a TX, so you can test it that way initially by hooking up a powered ESC/motor to it, or some other properly connected 5v source to the Berg power pins.
Cheers,
Jim

Thank you very much Jesolins

I've uploaded a power point version of the brushless mod diagram as you suggested I hope it looks better and clearer now , and I hope it make things easier for others interested in going brushless at an affordable price ,,,

Thanks to you Jesolins

PS: the crystal attached in the photos are just for size reference

Khaled,
The opti-BL chinaboard/xbase power point slide is a work of art
Thanks,

you are welcome .. thanks to you after all you made me do it ,,

one more thing Jesolins , please check this post by Falkor at the Xufo forum

http://forum.xufo.net/bb/viewtopic.php?p=115626#115626

here is his post regarding the brushless mod

"hmmmmm...
Always thought BL ESCs switch off below a certain voltage. Never try this with ESCs in fixed-speed mode Wink

For the X-Base (and most likely all other brushed PCBs): Please don't try this with ESCs/BL-Motors using higher current at full throttle than one of the brushed FETs can take. If I get the schematics right, the full BL ESC current is flowing through the brushed FET (minus a litte bit of current through the 30 Ohm resistors).

Next to that: Did someone already compare flight performance between this solution and the X-BLDCs? (especially during acrobatic flight or on days with a bit more wind) I would presume that the X-BL ESCs should give a more stable UFO, as they react faster to commands of the X-3D than this solution."

you know I am not technically qualified to argue with Falkor ,,, especially when I still didn't do the mod and try it for real so I can answer his questions

but regarding the Fet issue isn't that why all the positive wires to the ESCs are fused directly to the battery and we don't use the + FETS on the X-base or china board just as you said one before " the + FETS are not tasked in anyway " right ?

Let me know what you think

Thanks again

Khaled

@Khaled,
I did this mod on my chinaboard and x-base and DF. No problems at all Khaled. The FET's do not heat up. They are not stressed at all in this setup. I don't have to or intend to compare flight performance between the X-BL and the opti-mod. At $800 more, it darn well should be better in some way The opti-mod is still 10 times better than the brushed motors Personally, I never would have posted that to the x-forum. Falkor and Jast have a great product and I wouldn't want to insult them. But this does give us po-folks in this forum another option...
Cheers,
Jim
