Nice video. How are you controlling the side-to-side panning of the camera, is it head-tracking? or a control on your TX? or linked to the rudder?

By the way, you should post this in the aerial photography section. Just don't tell them you are one of the first to do it, many others have done first-person view flight.

I don't really like to fly in full scale planes (afraid of heights), but it will be really cool when the guys who do can get something like this affordably. Ah, heck, I'de probably try it once and get hooked. I wouldn't wait for the price to come down, so there's another expensive hobby.

In a way, this is fabulous for the sport, but in another it's sad. This will radically and fundamentally change the sport to where it's almost something else. I think this would pretty much end R/C as we know it now, much the same way those of us who raced slotcars lost interest in them as soon as we started playing with R/C cars, and they way we lost interest in Ukies when we started flying R/C. This is such a quantum leap forward that not many people will want to hang onto the old ways.

You can bet your last dollar that when they have R/C cars you can race this way, I'm absolutely in.

I was skeptical, but I have to admit that you have something really neat there. Aerial video is not new, but the VR panning really adds a dimention to it. Nice work. I hate to even ask how much the gear costs.

Aerial video is not my main goal, My goal is flying, this is more than aerial video.
I begin 11 years ago to install b/w cam inside r/c car, 6 years ago I fly my first r/c planes with cam,I fly two weeks normally and begin with headset after. I never fly again without headset since that time. This what I mean by new kind of people will come, people who come to r/c world to fly exclusivley with headset. (I fly two month on simulator before first planes flight), that's will bring many new flyer who will not come without the headset. It will not kill the hobby, the hobby will evoluate.

I'm certainly not the first to do it. Israel use drone since the 60.
But they are professionnal, I'm amateur. I do this with relatively not expensive equipement compare to them, my goal is not to make planes that fly far & autonomous, I want to fly aerobatic plane but don't have the money to afford it. This a hobby not a business.

My equipement is old. New equipement:
Gyro:$425
headset:$699
cam: $99
video tx/rx: around $150
antenna: 8dbi patch (optionnal) around $60
amateur radio license is req'd because you need to exceed 10mw of power.(it'not hard to get and inexpensive in Canada)
and also it's easy to plug, but not easy to get good video link without video dropout. It's not easy to explain everything for me to someone who don't have good electronic skil, for now it's not for everyone.

the cam in this setup is glue on a servo and allow 45 deg of pannig, the servo is plug in the rudder channel if not use or on slider etc. The servo can be modifie to 180 deg easily by adding two resistor on pot. lead or buying a specail circuit.

Did you ever have problems working out where the plane was? Or rather, working out which way to fly to get back to yourself? If you lost video contact, would you know which way to look for the plane?

To do that in compliance with the AMA guidelines, you would have to have a co-pilot maintaining direct visual contact with the model at all times. I realize the video was made in Canada, so the AMA was not relevant in this particular case.

Tv under sunlight are not visible, it's not pratical. No I don't have problem of orientation, the planes stay too close to me. the sound of the motor help me too.

Truly impressive video. I had flown a very similar set up to this about 10 years ago with a high res black & white camera but it was done at a MUCH higher altitude. Those passes through the trees were amazing.

So, the pan is on the unused rudder channel?? Operated with the stick?

Congratulations, that is a really great set up!

Now the pan/tilt is done only by moving my head, the gyro on the headset detect the head movement and send two sgnal thrue channel 7 & 8 of r/c tx.
