How about a lens that is just bent in one direction and placed in front of the Cinema webcam on it's side. That should take the 73 degrees up to 90 degrees and this is all you would ever need. There are no points for flying behind the 5 meter safety line.
I get the idea that 2 webcams would be to much for just about any laptop to handle. More importantly i think the 90 degree rotation of base line should be done now. Then further testing with the Cinema webcam to see if more then 73 degrees is needed at all. Kris, did you try it in the 800x448 mode? Is this possible yet? Joe, who is bummed out about his laptop. |

I didn't try anything but the lowest resolution, nor did I rotate anything on the camera for 90 degrees, etc.

Sorry, not to clog up this thread but would this laptop be sufficient?!
Do I need to run XP or can we have Vista compatabilaty?! As every laptop you buy now will have Vista or even Windows 7 on it. http://www.pcworld.co.uk:80/martprd/...m=null&tm=null Joe |

Yes, should work fine.
Re vista/win7: If it still doesn't work on vista/win7, let me know and I'll spent some time working out what the problem is and fixing it. |

ANother round of applause for cracking this nut. Unicorns do exist! Way to go and way to hang in there over the bumps in this road. Congrats!
Curious if there are FireWire web cams or perhaps network attached cams that could allow for a dual camera solution if they were not both on USB? Two laptops networked together, etc. I'm jonesing to see this work down the line for f3f. Many attempts but this one looks like it just might work. Awesome job. Peace |

You're looking at using cameras to identify the base A/B crossing the for speed task?
or a pair of cameras to do that and the total time? |

In the long run, I was thinking two laptops, one at both poles, networked together, for F3F. Would be great if it would keep score/time too. Short term, perhaps two cameras hooked to a single laptop, but using two buses so as to not overload the USB, would give a bigger field of coverage for F3B?
