Steve whilst I agree using a soldering iron on the armature is not necessarily a good idea. There are several grades of NdBFe magnets some have max operating temps of 180C. The max N rating available in the magnets is lower for the higher temps. Steve Neu recently said that he was using the 180C max operating temp magnets, previously he had been using 150C, probably because the strength he was after was not available in 180C originally.

Steve, try to heat up the magnets through 3.2mm shaft to even half of the not recommended temps and THEN REPORT.

Kira 480 from tower.. couldn't resist the prices..

I took the pinion from an arc motor, which by the way was a pain to get off, even with heat applied... this was applied with 648, which makes me scratch my head since it worked so well on the arc motor...

Any chance the pinion is not the *exact* size?

Not had to do it often, but I've never had a pinion come loose using loctite sleeve retaining compound (don't have the number) - the green stuff. Up to about 1600W I think. I've never sanded down a shaft, I was told that shouldn't be necessary - you're putting less surface area in contact..

Glad this came up ... I just got my Kontronic GB come in and will be attaching it to an ARC 28-58-1 motor.

While there is absolutely no perceptible side to side "play", I can move/slide the pinion up and down the motor shaft with no apparent friction whatsoever. Is this normal or should it be snug on the shaft?

Colin.

It's normal. Just clean shaft and pinion with aceton or something similar .

Hi everybody

I have a similar problem. I have a Kontonik Fun 500-48 with a 5.2: gearbox and I think that the pinion has come loose inside ( propstrike! OUCH.....). My big problem at the moment is that I cant get the gearbox off to see what is going on. Close inspection shows what looks like some locktite type goo in the area between the back of the gearbox and the front of the motor.

Any good suggestions on how a girl could get this loose? Or should i just pass it across to the engineers to fix?

Heat and twist if memory serves correctly. Should come off fairly easily

removing a tightened kontronik gearbox with base hands can be difficult, even with no glue..

I've used pressure pliers with cloth over the GB as to not damage..

Ok this is about putting it on as opposed to removing it. Should I just use the blue threadlocker loctite for this purpose?

Well, I have tried some heat and some covered grips, all to no avail. So, recognising that I am at the limit of my competency, the motor is now going to go on a trip back to the fatherland where this can be fixed properly.
