You can mark all the forums as read with a single click if you use the link at the bottom of the home page, just above the last blue bar. Bookmark that link and you can use it easily any time you want.

I am trying to get used to double clicking the little radio icon next to each forum to mark it read. Unfortunately, it sounds like this is falling on deaf ears as it seems this is the way it's going to be whether we like it or not and we've basically been told so.

I just want to put my vote in for a preference that allows us to mark all threads as read on exit. I usually don't read all the threads that are new and I don't plan on getting back to them.

If we could just set a preference it would basically approximate the old behavior.

I also want to make it clear that for me, my desire is the preference should not be based on logging out, that would make things worse as I'd have to log out and log back in, making more of a hassle, it should be based on "exit" like it used to.

However, everyone should understand that determining when someone has "exited" the site is not easy or exact due to the nature of HTTP. It is usually just based on a time out period since the last page you load so it is possible that you could load up a long thread or have several threads open in tabs or windows resulting in you not having to fetch a page for a long enough period of time that the server would think you had "exited" prematurely.

I also get the idea from reading the threads here and in Complaints/Suggestions that they are working on this issue, but it is not easy to alter an off the shelf package like this forum software, especially adding a user preference.

I have gotten somewhat used to using the "Mark Forums Read" link at the top of the pages. And it has the added benefit of allowing me to decide when all the bold threads get reset instead of leaving up to the time out code.

Either way, but the adding the option in preferences would basically give us the option to mimic the old behavior.

Good luck Mike, I know it's a pain in the rear end.

We're still looking into this and other issues but there will be some delay in responding as Mike just left for a planned vacation.
