Don,
I have tried both ways, with the fixed nose wheel it does track and ground handle ok. With the steerable front wheel it is even better but....if the servo is mounted on the underside of the fuselage it makes life a little awkward to fit your Lipos in and also adds weight. The steerable nose wheeled model that I have has had to have lead added to the nose to help with the hang angle because the servo stops the battery from going an extra 1" forwards. Like Joe stated, if your flying off grass you will not need it. Regards Rich |

Hi Don,
The way I have fixed the servo on jmy RPGs, using a standard size Futaba servo, the thickness of the Fuselage bottom is enough to make the servo flush (or nearly) inside the fuz, meaning unrestricted access for lipos. Hope the picture helps. John |

Hi Don,
As you can see guys have tried fixed gear (works fine on grass), Servo controlled nose gear (works better, adds weight), and I opted for a free castoring nose wheel on my RPG, it works well but is still a bit difficult to turn in deeper grass.
I think all the methods work fine, it just comes down to what you want. Regards, -Mike |

Thanks for all the replies. My field is short rolled grass. I was leaning towards a steerable nose wheel anyhow.
