I'll for sure have to have help! I'm not very technical. SG, yours looks so simple, the way it folds, I love it!

How is it controlled? There are no servos, so you vary the power to each motor? Via your transmitter???

One tail servo the rest is controlled through the 3 speed controllers and ccpm mixing -

That outside flight was crazy cool. I guess the question still for me would be how much harder to fly than a plane is one of these. I have a heli but haven't mastered it. I can hover and fly a little but not very much. Are they as hard as a heli? I have seen some people say they are similar and some say they are easier. Just curious if it should be something to make plans for down the road.

the tricopters fly very much like a fixed pitch helicopter, that is overpowered.
The tricopter can also be much more responsive than a fixed pitch heli. I have let some coax heli owners hover my tri, and they do pretty well. I also let an airplane only pilot fly it, he blasted up to 75-80feet and then couldn't tell which way it was going. He was too scared to try again
Practice with the heli, when you are sick of buying parts, build a tricopter.

Too Cool! Questions: (you knew they were coming)
What controls the yaw?
Is there any other electronics or circuits needed, or is all the programming through the TX?
How much usable payload is there on the setup you have?
Would it be possible to add one of the Co-Pilot stabilizers?

I've been flying a Raptor 60 for AP for some years, but this has possibilities!

Well I am at that point now. I have thought of selling it but figure I can't get much for it. I guess I could strip it down and use the 3 servos, ESC and included tx/rx that came with it. It is a CP Pro2. Probably not the best heli to learn on but it was all I could afford. My Hanger9 flight sim has helped a whole lot with the learning curve though. In the sim I do much better but am afraid to get the actual heli up there and let it go. I may be at the tricopter point soon.

As built with the $230 in parts, how much camera could yours pick up. Of course some landing gear and a cam mount underneath would have to be added. I couldn't find a mention of the payload ability in the thread but may have missed it.

My tri with the DT 750 motors listed will lift my 6 oz camera as if it were not there. I have flown with 16 oz of payload ( not including battery weight) But it was pushing it a little. 10 oz should be no problem. I mount my camera to the top front of the frame. The camera is in a foam cylinder that contains a servo. The whole thing just velcros on in the spot where the battery goes when I don't fly with the camera. I move the battery back over the cg when the camera is mounted. I did make landing gear, and an underslung mount, but then I can't easily fold and store the copter in my truck. You may need more programming than that radio will do, but the eurgle from r2hobbies, for $97 works very well. it is 2.4ghz has great range, and all the mixes you could want. And the recievers from hobby city will bind to it, and they are only $15!

My main radio for the airplanes is a Spectrum DX6i. I am hoping that is enough radio so when the time comes I am ready to go. It won't be real soon but I am watching all these threads with interest.

The frame I have come up with has the camera mount already built in. I am hoping it will haul my a640 around with ease. I used to fly helis and I think this is much easier. My outdoor maiden above was the first time I have had this outside.
I am using a dx7 with mine with an ar6110e so you should have not trouble with yours
Gonna add a camera tomorrow

So where would one buy the frame? Or plans for the frame?

I second the question, is there a plan at all for the frame? Am I correct in assuming that all the arms are of equal length and the same distance apart on the diameter?

Oh..are all three props the same style (no ccw type) ???

Thanks,

Mike

frames are very simple. the most complex thing is the yaw mechanism. I have made frames from 1 and 2" thick dow blue foam, wood, aluminum, and carbon. For me, wood has the best of both worlds. It is inexpensive, easy to find locally, and the stiffness is not bad for the weight. All you need is three arms of about 15-20" long, glued, or somehow fastened to a center plate that keeps them at 120 degree spacing. The center plate can be wood like my copter, or aluminum, carbon......The center is sized to hold 4 gyros, reciever, battery, camera, and whatever other equipment you need to carry.
Your CG must fall at the intersection of all the booms. You can mount your speed controls on the arms, or under the motors for cooling, but its best to keep them away from the gyros so they don't effect them when they get warm. Once time allows, I'll make a build thread....

Great job!

Wish I had more time to elaborate. Very interesting I have had a similar idea. instead of gyros I would use flybarless system same idea on the tail but two larger fix pitch gear drive setup on the fwd rotors and have the tail maybe lifting 20%

What’s your take?
I will follow closely.
Cheers Jerry
