Drafting Mylar is my favorite and makes excellent exhaust tubes! For that matter, anything real light and slick does... lol.

As for the intake, I usually use Posterboard (the one with a slick, glossy side). Since you're running a pretty high-power setup though, you'll probably want to wrap the intake with some carbon tow or have some sort of reinforcement to keep it from sucking itself in.

While very nice - I still don't think this is the airplane you should be learning to fly on. Get a good trainer and work your way up.

You need to learn to crawl before you can walk.

Oh I know that!!! I have a Hanger 9 P-51 trainer and am looking at getting a more appropriate first trainer to start with (suggestions?). Not to mention playing on Real Flight Simulator non stop. The F-86 is just my long term build, no way will I attempt to fly it without lots of air time on other birds.

Thanks Vic, I'll start hunting around for Mylar or something else (gotta check at work for freebies first, car dealership service departments have all kinds of weird stuff laying around, LOL). My next hunt will be for some retracts.

Oh, one more thing. The instructions mention to look at the plans for the CG, but I cant find that anywhere on the plans! Where are you guys with this model placing the CG? I was planning on placing the EDF right on the CG's centerline.

Bruff,

Since you have built a few of these could you answer a few questions about the differences between the wood and foam wings? I just picked up one of the HOB wood wing, fixed gear kits new in box. The wing is listed as 42" span while the EJF website lists a 49" span wing. So were the foam wings stretched? Do the foam wings still use the same airfoil as the wood wings? I plan on cutting foam wings for my Saber and installing retracts. What changes do I need to make to retrofit retracts vs. the fixed gear. The instruction manual shows a sort of splayed plywood stringer arrangement between two ply formers for the nose gear. Pics of the retract setup in Hoser's Saber thread show the stringers being parallel and possible thicker wood? Sorry for the thread hijack Brad, but you might have the same questions since you have the wood wing version as well.

Steve

I have both type of wings at home. I'll check the measurements and post them here.

No worries Steve, I have the same questions! I havent made any progress, too busy working, putting dogs to sleep, and working on the full scale truck. I'm still trying to research some retracts though.

OK, so I got the RCLander 68mm fan unit and the JS1400 just showed up. They wont go together, LOL. The fan housing is 1.23" ID and the JS1400 is 1.31" OD. Luckily I have a lathe and am trying to figure out how to chuck the JS1400 up in it to turn it down. I dont want to risk hurting the fan housing. Also, I cant use the piece that covers smaller motors, but thats no biggy. Sorry for cell phone pics, my digicam battery was dead. And yes, thats a scratch built WWII halftrack in the back ground, LOL

Unfortunately I don't think there is really any good way to fit the JS1400 in that housing. You would need to cut down both the front flange and the flange with the O-Ring. You might also need a new smaller O-Ring as well. The bullet on the back is for inrunners not out-runners. You should see if you can sell the Lander fan or return it and get either the HET 6904 or the Wemo Minifan or the WM400. The JS1400 fits all of those fans. I think the WM400 has free shipping right now from Velocity-RC.com

I got the JS1400 to fit today. Didn't even use the lathe, just some 100 grit sandpaper in my hand and spun the JS1400 for an hour or so, LOL. The o-ring did not fit, too big, but its flange is smaller than mounting flange. Just gotta play with mounting to get fan centered in shroud.

You might want to try a different O-Ring. I know that some people had to get smaller O-Rings in order to get the JS to fit in the Minifan.
