200 Amp ESC

Lee Liddle posted about the new 200A Turnigy ESC so since I seem to hover aver 100a I bought one. Didn't realize just how big it was. Comparison size to a CC110HV in picture. Weighs in at .68#.

I beat you all, I got one first, months ago.

The problem is that I don't have anything to put it in, nor have I even soldered connectors on to it. I did get the programming card also.

So far, I have been searching and searching, looking and looking for a large size ARF jet kit. Most of the well known web sites are up, the kits are listed, but nobody is home. Believe me, nobody is there, I cannot buy a large size jet kit anywhere.

I simply want a freaken large composit L-39 that will run on one single EDF combination, 10S to 12S.

Currently I think in a Yellow F18 with Dynamax I plan to maiden tomorrow, to be replaced with XPS if I can get one, on 12S.

I have a lot of ICDF's that I didn't finish destroying with undependable IC engines. A large scratch built F4D, Vortex, BVM Viper, BVM Maverick, several Byron Mig 15's, Byron F18, etc. so I have lots of choices.

It takes a lot of power to get one of these 14# birds up-- seems to be about 110 Amps or more with the setups I've been using at 11S to 12S. I've got a box of fried 100A controllers so 200A ESC seems to be wise.

I think I'm probably surging to 130 A and steady at 110A in limited cooling conditions- I'm hoping this will give a little safety margin.

Let us know how it works, I need to bump up my cc110, running my sabre around 120 amps, and it gets real hot!

Until some SHV 200a controlers come out this is the next best thing. I might even go so far as to rewind one of the new extreem scream monster motors to a higher kv that would give 30k rpm on 12s in the Dynamax fan. It would take a 12s2p 10ah battery to power it, but we are talking 10kw.

Then if you do two of them you could run them both off of a 12s3p 15ah batt.

So then you`ve got 20kw+, 40lbs of thrust, and some where over 300mph efflux.

Cost... fan/motor $430 x 2.... esc $190 x 2..... about $700 for budget batteries ( pulling about 30c at full power)....total about $2000 for huge power. Cram it all in a slick, 30-35 lb sport jet and be sure to have a change of pants handy

We don't need such high amperage, we need higher voltage! A 16S-18S controller capable of 150A would take care 99.99% of all our current and future needs.

Jim, I would say 24s ESC's would be nice at around 120 to 140 amps.

I agree, I`m just ready for a single 127mm that will do 10kw without spending $700 on an ESC that may pop as soon as you plug it in. When pushing the limit that hard, I don`t want a single esc that I have to ship over seas and wait 6 months to get it back. I`d rather have 3 at 1/3rd the price so that I know I can get in 3 flights at a Fly-In LOL

No doubt, the turnigy is a good deal not to be ignore. A cheap 12s 125mm EDF may just be the right ESC... What you guys say?

I'm going to test it tomorrow on 12S in a Dynamax-Scorpion 630kv setup in a YA F-18. I expect to pull about 120 Amps so the CC 110HV isn't quite enough. The lower rated Turnigy's have all burned up on me, along with some CC escs, so this looks like the only choice for less than an arm and two legs.
