How have you al made the drive shafts for those small boats?
I have al the gear for it, but I can''t figure out how to make a driveshaft that will run smooth enough...

Either direct drive with a pager. One that I haven't tried in the water yet is the prop shaft connected to the motor with heatshrink. I used a pico-z shaft and 7mm motor.

This air boat is slightly under 7.5" long and uses a thrust vectoring 8mm pager. I have a problem with it though. It won't turn at speed. Unfortunately hot glue doesn't stick to the book cover (five start) plastic and it keeps peeling, and I don't have sheet foam to make a new one. Pics don't want to upload so I'll try later.

I used piano wire (american gage) that was close enough to 2mm from the hobby store and ran it up directly into the brushless motor replacing the stock short shaft that was the motors axle.

the problem is nog connecting the axle but getting the axle out of the boat, without the water getting in and not giving to much friction...

I have a 9gr outrunner and I will be getting a 240mah 2s lipo (450mah is to big I think...) so I will start with a 10" version.

bigger boats use a brass (or similiar metal) tube in which a teflon tube is inserted and the actual axle is threaded flex steel (something like that...) but I can't find a teflon tube small enough...

hope someone could shed some light on my problem (perhaps some foto's)

building a stuffing tube isnt too difficult to do. i used an aluminum tube with brass inserts at either end, the aluminum tube is filled with marine grease to keep the water out. no pics but if i make another one, i will post it up for sure

*edit* does anyone have some setup geometry for a stable outrigger? links?

So did we come up with a good combination of motor, prop, batteries, and speed controller for a small (8" or so) boat? either Hydro or Regular, surface riding or submerged?

For a flex I would use .5mm piano wire inside 1mm tube at each end. I'll emphasize on it when I get home.

Still havent done it, but don't see why it wouldnt work.

Stupid me. The little Kyosho props actually have a 2mm I.D. and are 15mm in diameter.
