I decided to try Relay Ridge instead of Kepps today. It didn't work out too well. There was too much snow at the top to get over to where I wanted to try DS, so I decided to just fly the front side. And it turns out that I had left my gloves home. So I flew for a few minutes until my fingers started to go numb. Also, Cory was right. there are rocks all over the place that gash foam and would kill a crunchy. And it takes a long time to get up that dirt road. So, I think I've lost my desire to try DSing there.

The shape of that hill is really good, but it was always the idea of landing on 1/400th grit sandpaper that kept me from flying there more than once.

Cory,

You going up tomorrow? Looks like a balmy 35 degrees with 20 mph winds. As long as we don't get snow..

I'll be there, unless it's wet. I doubt I'll be able to head out until 1 or so. When are you heading up?

I'm starting to have second thoughts. It's a bit muddy in my yard. I'm not backing out yet, just rethinking...

Wow! You have powerful (and quick!) negotiating skills!

I still really do want to go. I'll be watching the mud while I'm mending the fence this morning.

Great air today. Cory said it was steady at 28-ish mph. Too fast for my nascent skills. I couldn't negotiate the bottom turn, and almost lost my JW downwind a couple of times. Cory thinks I wasn't digging deep enough to get through the shear layer. So I stayed frontside mostly.

Wish some of the big boys had been there to enjoy the fine weather.

I think you were trying to turn too far above the sheer layer and were getting the plane coming back up the hill pretty much in the sheer layer.

As cold as it was up there, I got a lot colder walking 3 blocks to see the Teton Gravity Research movie at the Colonial Theater tonight. Brrrrr!
