Wow, the perfect camera... I think we are all looking for that one.

This "perfect" requirement really depends on many

I would first start by defining the application of your camera, what do need to do with it, and how would you like the camera to perform

Use these parameters to weed out those that do not meet your expectation or minimum global requirements:

1. IR, normal
2. Color, black/white
3. Video or still
4. Size
5. Weight
6. lens, folded optics, telescopic, SLR
7. Zoom requirements
8. Wireless, if so what frequency
9. Network RJ 45
10. How are you planning to trigger the camera
11. Dust proof, water resistant
12. Water proof, if so to what depth
13. Digital, how many MP
14. Are you brand specific, if yes which
15. Price range
15. Anything else you can think off

Next, create a matrix with all the possible cameras in the market that meet your above criteria along with specific parameters such as:

1. Ease of use
2. Required external components
3. Ease of integration
4. Hackable
5. Availability, store pick-up or order from Germany
6. Forum support
7. Stand alone or it require additional items
8. Power source
9. Warranty
10. Recyclable, can you use it in another project
11. price
13. Ease of maintenance
14. Anything else you may think off

Next, give a score of 1 point for exceed requirement, 0 point if meet requirement, -1 point if do not meet requirement

Example:
if say of the 15 cameras chosen 13 have a 1 year warranty but one only has 6 month and another one 2 years. Score the 13 cameras with 0 points, the 2 year with 1 point and the 6 month -1 point.

Of course if you are going to hack the camera your warranty is void anyways so this point may not matter

At the end add the points for each camera and you should have just a couple of cameras with a high score.

I hope this helps
