Congratulaions on your successful maiden. Yeah, you beat me. And this was not the first time something like this has happened. You have added virtually ALL the scale details that I had intended to add to mine. Only differnce would be, I plan on making mine resemble the replica in Germany right now. Whilst browsing the 'net for more vintage gliders I noticed something very prominant that I had omitted from my Habicht, mainly the registration mark on the lower wing surfaces. On gliders of the 30's and 40's the registration mark appears to be split between both wings where today most are on one wing only. So, without further delay I printed off the registration mark at the correct font and size and got very intimate with a scalpel! The single letter, hyphen and four numbers were all cut free hand and belive it or not the whole job took nearly 3 hours from start to finish, which is a bit longer than I thought it would, because the longest job was accurately marking out the wings for precise placement of the numbers. The gell CofG buttons can just be seen (if you've got good eyes!) adjacent to the front of the number '1' and cutting through the top of the number '9'
I'm still toying with the idea of fitting the tail skid as this is a prominant feature too, but I'm fearful it'll have a very short life on the slopes where I fly and may even damage the bottom of the fuz. Ideally it should be installed before the rudder post is epoxied in. If anyone else adds this detail I would be very interested in seeing how you install it. |

Orderd my Habicht a few days ago from Nitromodels here in the US and it came yesterday. First impresson was " man, this is nice." It seem heavy but from the vids that Ming put on u-tube, it seems to fly great.

![]() I had a further 3 flights today and guess what.....I forgot my camera! Luckily I had my mobile phone so one of my flying mates took a couple of pics for me (thanks Graham). Next time there will be some far better images.Anyway, today I used the (now functioning) airbrakes to great effect during the landings. I have them set up on my throttle stick and they are very powerful when fully deployed and ensure slow, predictable landings. There is virtually no pitch change if they are deployed slowly (very slight pitch up) and it's very easy to adjust the glide path to suit. More loops and stall turns were tried and with the extra movement I now have on the ailerons the roll rate is about one in 2 seconds, which is fast enough for a scale ship like the Habicht. I also tried some side slipping and the large rudder makes this manoeuvre easy to execute, but don't try it at low speed or it will tip stall, surprise, surprise! ![]() Inverted flight is easy with little forward pressure required on the stick (I have rearward CofG), but IMO it just doesn't look right on this vintage glider. I didn't try any spins as the lift had a definate ceiling on it today so I'll try this at a later date. Sorry for the poor photo quality, but it ata least shows the Habicht with air under it's wings. ![]() 'Till next time then............ |
