Who is "WE" in the post? A Vendor? Walkera? Xtreme? Why isn't it good news for Mark? Is he starting his own extended shaft company? Boy is that a setup line waiting to happen or what?

Bad news for Mark means, he does not need to build them himself which I believe he enjoy

LOL Lars,
I do indeed enjoy the challenge. Thats good news that an aftermarket one is going to become available. From my experience running 22mm longer at the moment is great and just what the 400 needs ![]() Cheers... Mark Last edited by KCV6; Nov 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM. |

A couple more pics of a few canopies and the 22mm extended shaft
While I wait for my converters to turn up I decided to play around with a couple of spare 450 canopies. certainly not everyones cup of tea, but I kinda like a lot of red on the 400D.
Also a decent pic of my dual linked lightened flybar with the 22mm extender fitted. Is flying very nicely in this configuration Still waiting for calm weather to play some more with the paddled flybar.Mark |

Sven, yeah I definately like the "chinese mask" series of canopies. The Align one was a freebie from the good folk at RC711 as they had accidentally sent it too me instead of the mask and were very apologetic and sent the correct mask with my next order free. I seem to collect 450 canopies, if they are on special when I get other bits I can't help but buy one. Cut back they work really well on the CB180D as well. Just slide the original canopy inside and mark the outline and start cutting.
Well my 53Q3 wreck (burnt out) is coming together nicely now as well, am using a lot of the 400D mod parts on it seeing as they have near identical blade holders and shafts. My workshop is looking like a production line. LOL. Mark |

![]() There are two - or since Mark (and Hardy&Reiner in Germany) three ways of getting a greater distance between your rotor planes: 1. self made extenders like Marks: only for people who have the means and the knowledge ... which is probably 2% 2. xtended inner shafts: this has been done with the 34cm helis for years now (and for the larger ones for the Big Lama from Esky for quite a while). There were many different "rods" that were used ... piano wire, screw drivers, brass rods ... 3. and this is the way Xtreme goes (and its the ONLY company I know doing this): A "longer" upper head that increases the distance between the rotor planes. If you look at the stability I dare to claim #2 is the most stable of the 3 solutions ... and also the easiest way to perform the mod. |

As far as blade strikes go ... the DISTANCE between the two rotor planes is what lowers the probability of blade strike - HOW you achieve this distance is basically unimportant ... ... just personally I would prefer an extended shaft over anything else, as the extended head as well as Marks extender don't offer the same stability ... long shaft with a short head is - in regards to the forces that are created there - always going to be superior to the longer head (but I don't imagine anyone would be even able to realize the difference) or the extender (same judgement) Long story short - theoretically the longer shaft to me is the most stable solution - but I doubt anyone can fly this heli in a way that the difference (or superiority of the longer inner shaft) becomes noticeable ...
