Oh, and my resoning would be because I know that the person who wrote it, John Lipton, meant it to be a song about the hardships of growing up.

Seems this is not a Yes or No answer. There is it's intended meaning and then there is the perception. If perception IS truth, as the saying goes, then maybe Yes. Perhaps there should be a Maybe button. |

If you are familiar with the saying "Drugs = Death" then Puff the magic dragon as used in Vietnam (C47 gunship) was very good at supporting the "yes" response.
