A small update:

The stuff i ordered this weekend has arrived.

This is the pretty close to the place where one of the 2 mini-servo's will be placed.
The other one will drive the winch, and will be placed inside the crane-arm.

Mini-servo and standard servo in comparison.

Fortunatly the servo's are easy to adjust to normal engine "mode".

i take it you are going for servos to drive the crane base then, if you are, EXTEND the 3 wires that serve the pot, as they have a tendency to creep of their neutral, may I sugest that you re-route the wire to the top of the superstructure amd put a radome on it, that way if it does start to creep, you can re-dial in the neutral point by turning a radome.

Hi Ghost,

The idea is good, but the receiver which will control the servo's (now acting as normal engine's with a huge redaction) has relais for turning on or off the stuff applied to it.
Therefore + and - for the engine is enough.
If i don't want to have the engine running it simply doesn't get any power and therefore can't do anything at all.
When i do want to make the engine work it will get power.
As the electronics are taken out of the servo and isn't anymore connected to the engine it wont do anything i don't want it to do.
It really does work as a normal engine, give it power and it works, put the + on the other side and it turns the other way around, and when you don't give it power it wont do anything at all.

I found that the winch on Nordie sometimes creeps, and because its a remove servo job to get at it, i have to resort to dialing trim to adjust it back to zero.

It will be the easiest to simply remove all electronics inside the servo, and use a saperate servo with 2 switches to control it.
Then speed can't be controlled, but there also aren't any trouble with neutral-settings.

reasearch these Parallax servo's i just got my hands on, same price as normal servo's with an external pot and designed to spin continuously. zero fuss.

My new ones are Modelcraft Topline miniservo ES-05 JR.

The construction of the new cranehouse (which is the foundation for the crane-arm) has started, the first outer plate is attached.
Pics will come later tonight.

Bottom end of the frame under construction.

Starting to get the right shape.

The frame on it's future place.

The first plate is attached.

This is what it looks like right now.
One of the sides will be used as a hatch so i can come in it for maintance.

Yesterday i managed to get the crane working, but during the first test the connection between threaded bar and servo wasn't quite straight, so the servo managed to bend the entire contruction, and broke it in the end.
The lot had been repaired and broke down again yesterday evening during a workshop modelbuilding in the church.
Today i really don't have time for modelbuilding.

I don't know what your talking about.
The contruction on the pics hasn't got anything that will be working, and therefore doesn't seem to need anything that could absorb forces.

If your talking about the propulsion of the crane-arm (for moving it up and down) it is build in a turnable foundation, so that isn't the problem.

Josse ..from what your saying you have a misalignment issue ...A piece of hose or a spring would allow for the unit to turn and not twist in an out of round fashion ...It would be similar to putting a universal joint in there ..and still be alot more forgiving than a solid joint from the servo to the shaft ..

Put the servo on a turnable plate, but this will be changed soon to make room for a new working method.

Given a workshop in church last friday, and this was result at the end of the evening:

The people who did the workshop hadn't any experience with modelbuilding.

My first better quality soldering work, still can be done much better though.
