2 thumbs up with smooth takeoffs and landings. Flying in formation for a bit....a beautiful flock of RPGs. Too much fun!

Cool RPG's
Nice to see all those RPG's flying together.. I am the only one flying this weekend at the Zepher 2009 Electric fly-in here in Florida. Cross winds prevail but sometimes I get silly and fly anyway. Great Fun.. Thanks Rich.
I tryed to upload some movies but the files were too big.May have to try utube. Jim |

Jims RPG
GUys being new to you tube I did upload some videos that a kid shot for me.
I thought I would have a file number to put here but haven't figued that out yet. Anyway it is under 2009 Zepher 045 to 2009 Zepher 052 Hope it helps. Look at my take off and how wild it was. Working on that and once I thottle back it almost stops in the air. I am afraid that if I lose power I will not have enough push to do a good landing. Any comments? Thanks, Jim |

Hi Jim,
It sounds to me as though you will need to add some nose weight, its easy to check. Take your RPG up high and chop the power, if the hang is correct it should descend forwards. If there is not enough hang then it will stop rotate and weather cock back into wind and keep repeating this until power is applied again. Heres your excellent landing ![]()
If you download windows movie maker (its a free download) you can add all those clips together. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...viemaker2.mspx Regards Rich |

Jim,
Just watched the video again, I think you will find that it will take off easier if you can extend the nose wheel a little(probably easier to bend the rear upwards), so that the boom is parallel with the ground ..if you look you can see the angle of attack of the horizontal stabiliser, which when all 3 wheels are on the ground it is giving in effect up elevator.I can remember playing with the ride position and with the nose wheel closer to the ground than the rears, it used to jump into the air like that. With the boom parallel to the ground you will get a better indication when the nose wheel goes light that it is ready to take to the air. Hope this helps Regards Rich Last edited by SafeLandings; Oct 28, 2009 at 08:23 PM. |

Rich,
I will do as you say.. I do think a little easier on take off will help and some added weight to the nose.. I should be able to flex the main gear a little should help also.. Will let you know how it works out. Thanks, Jim |

RPG is Better
Rich,
I did add more nose weight and bent the nose wheel to make the horz. stab level and now my takeoffs are smooth and landings better and now when I get off the power it continues to go forward. Thanks Rich for a nice design. Jim in Florida |

Rich, If I passed the tx to Joel he would try a triple snap at 10' to see how it handled.
He did try a small electric once and that ruined him, maybe someday he will see the light. If I see him I will pass the tx to him and he will love it. Jim |

Do I want a steerable nose wheel or is the rudder and prop blast enough?

Hey Don...I think it's a must on the pavement where I fly, but I think Rich used to get around fine on grass with just rudder. I went the easy route and bent my gear forward so all I do is lean my blades back which causes the RPG to rest on the tail...where I have a tail wheel. It gets me in the right direction and gets the job done.
