Moderators are afraid to reply

The mods don't have a the guts to reply, but just gave me a warning for my "hyperflight co uk" Custom User Title. I don't see why because it isn't advertising or offensive. If they carry on like this I will soon be out of here.

It is almost funny, because a couple of months ago I enquired about becoming a sponsor but never got a reply. I very much doubt I would do now.

Neil.
PS They then issued a warning for this post, declaring it was a Personal Attack. Notice the lack of comment, again.

The reason you have been warned is because:

Reason: Personal Attack
The author has attacked another user's intelligence, character, or appearance.

The moderator who warned you entered this comment:

I have not been impressed with the moderation around here, myself. Too Pavlovian of an approach. They only see something when the bell is rung.

On a more OT note, neither of my posts concering faults with the upgrade have been responded to. No idea if this is do to an overload of complaints or a lack of concern.

edit: Did get a response to a post. The ability to put someone on ignore is hidden in a drop down box, in THEIR Friends list! I reallllly don't quite get that one. Much simpler to leave it in the box that their name appears in when they make a post. Oh well, thank goodness I do not buy a upgraded membership, I am sure my angst would fall deaf ears.

They don't have the time to "police" this site. There are far too few of them. There was a day where we had volunteer moderators responsible for each forum but that ended in 2005. The warning system is what took it's place and is how the moderator staff is informed of rule infractions. Believe me, I was one of the more outspoken in my dislike for the warning system but I've learned to work with it.
If used properly it seems to be fairly effective. Kind of like a Neighborhood Watch.

Problem is it is often not used properly. When a mod goes to investigate, they see only that which was deemed to be in violation, they never manage to see the posts above or below that are in violation.

Thus, Pavlovian and ineffective.

Of course, those in power like to believe their method is effective but, it is not.

Whoever decided to 'issue infractions' instead of issuing points *penalizing* infractions should be issued a dictionary.

Same for the one who decided "An Advertisement is any media which persuades the viewer to take an action". "Don't forget to breathe" is not an 'Advertisement' but will hopefully persuade you to 'take an action' should you need a reminder.

Unless hyperflight.co.uk is a site sponsor, it is not allowed to use the text in a custom user title.

I'm very unhappy to hear that you have not received replies to either the moderation issue or the sponsorship inquiry. People are getting paid to do these jobs!

Can you please PM me with details so I can pursue this?

Where is that text found? I'll update it.

By the definition we've provided, "Don't forget to breathe" is an advertisement. This is on purpose.

Neil,

You know fully well that "hyperflight co uk" as a user title is advertising your website, or directing users to it. Anyone with any computer savy at all will realize that adding a www and 3 dots will get you there. Semantics and being cute to skirt the rule is all that is....period

My point is that IMO I complied with the rules wording, if not their spirit. Given that hyperflight co uk IS NOT a web site or an advertisement, I think that at least an explanation of what is, and what is not acceptable is appropriate from the mod.

Will do.

Also could you also look into why I got another warning for the first post? This seems strange and unfair for several reasons

1. It was addressing a group of people, so *Personal Attack" seems inappropriate.
2. It was given after you had responded, why did the mod think it was a problem when you didn't mention it?
3. By awarding the warning, and not entering a comment to explain why, the mod was both exemplifying moderators' poor judgement and illustrating my point.
4. Most surprisingly the title of the thread was changed (before I changed it) possibly to make it more objectionable or personal, presumably by the mod himself. See the Google Desktop screendump, showing that "to reply to Neil" was added to the thread title.

Overall these unjust, arbitrary and unexplained sanctions are having the reverse than intended effect on my up-to-now unblemished conduct within RCGroups.

Neil.

That's very entertaining.

I looked into it and the mods warned you for calling them cowards.

That doesn't seem "strange" or "unfair" to me. It seems like exactly what you asked for.
