Thanks for the good ideas, RMG2. I'm particularly intrigued by the JR270 - never even heard a thing about it before, and can't find anything about it on the HF forums.

is work`s fine for me, does take some time on the setup. but after you have it tweeked out, this thing is great. ok so i was just browzing www.amainhobbies.com and saw the JR g270 gyro for 110 buck`s. now im wondering why i paid 224 buck`s for the g370/3500g combo. i may just get the g270 when it`s in stock, just to see what it`s about. 110 buck`s for a MEMS gyro? man that`s cheap. My MT is crashed once again and I didn't do it!
![]() I ask the best flyer at our club to fly my MT and tell me what he thought of my setup. He was putting the MT though all the hard 3D stuff and raving about how well it flew! He had never flown an MT, only Trex and was shocked (his words) how soild it was! I was smiling ear to ear as this guy was doing a tight funnel about two feet off the deck and in an instant my beloved MT was on the deck! The pilot didn't really know what he had done wrong, but admitted he screwed up! No biggy, I have parts and the crash damage was less than average so she'll be back in the air in no time. ![]() If ya love your heli, don't let the "great" pilots fly it!

He found out the hard way that a MT handles differently to a T-Rex... not worse, just different. T-Rex pilots often have that reaction to the way a MT handles... both the 'wow' and the 'oh bugger!'

Ah - one more thing - just remember all dismayed, blinged TRex, CF frame owners saying a word or two about MT plastic frame
![]() All stock (aside of problem of tracking/upper mixing arms) MT flew pretty much as all metal TRex... |

The plastic frame on the MT is like armor from a tank.. I don't miss the double stacked frame from my V1 SE , every dinger resulted in removing darn near everything to get at the servos for gear replacement. It amounted to an hour of bench time for what would take 5min to do on the MT..

RMG2, it must have been pretty cool to see your Mini T fly like that, while it lasted. Glad you don’t seem to upset about the outcome. You know the old rule “if you ask, you pay – if they ask, they pay.”

The fellow offered to pay for damages but I declined and told him not to feel bad as it was no big deal and I enjoyed him flying my heli! Besides, I swear each time I rebuild after a crash my heli flys even more precise than before. I'm sure that is not entirely true but for sure it never flys worse! Except for the expense, crashes are not that big a deal. I would have been flying again this morning but there was just one small part I was lacking. The crash pulled the screw threads out of the washout block and I have never had a replacement for that part as I have never had that happen before. I have a partial metal head already so I went to the metal washout block with my parts order. On the subject of improvement, I have to say the new 450-size KBDD tail blades are a real improvement! The original KBDD 450 tail blades where 59.6mm long and tapered toward the tip slighlty. The new style are 61mm and the chord width remains constant until near the tip where they taper back a little (same shape as larger size models). End result is greater tail authority and improved range of gain use from the gyro. What I mean is that with the earlier 59.6mm blades I could never make my tail wag even with full gain settings on my gyro but now I have to dial back some gain in order to keep from wagging. I'm guessing a lot of 450 owner had complained about the 59.6mm version not having enough "bite" so KBDD accomodated folks with this newly designed version. ![]() http://www.readyheli.com/SearchResults.asp |

Well, after all that work (building a new MT from scratch) the maiden was AWESOME!!! The new Kasama head is sweet too.
One observation is that on the 2nd flight, the tail started bobbing up and down. Apparently that's the result of too low headspeed. I switched to idle-up and it did go away. I seem to recall reading about that issue before but had forgotten about it and never experienced it on the old MT w/stock plastic head. Now I just have to increase and maybe even out my pitch range (it's about +10/-9) and maybe try the 15t pinion. I need to tach the head but I should be at appx 2900 right now on 14t. Maybe I should just go 4s ![]() Thanks for the help guys! |

Glad it's working well for you. I've run the Kasama head as low as 2000 RPM, but you need to pay attention to how you damp it.
Crank it up to 3200+ and you start to understand why you paid the extra money. I don't want to run my heli that high any more, but it's just starting to go at 3200 or 3300 RPM. You have to make sure the rest of the heli is up to it-- remember you're cranking up the tail speed too --but the K head will fly at some pretty insane speeds. |
