How to set head speed?
If you dont have a tachometer, whats the best way to get your head speed the same throught the pitch curve.I dont have a tachometer and the head speed is a big part of getting the heli set up.Anybody got a good method of doing this? Thanks

When you go to fly, if your head speed drops you can hear it. You can adjust the throttle curve to try to compensate for that. I don't bother though - I just run 100% throttle all the time. You don't need to obtain a number for your head speed - just punch up the curve until it flies right.

You run the throttle 100% in each mode or just idle up?

http://www.readyheli.com/Online_Head...lator_s/81.htm I have found this useful once I calibrate myself to a know configuration, for instance my HB King II, flown it allot and so if it says more headspeed, I know it will be more touchy and powerful. Seems pretty close when I compare my different CP helis. ![]() INPUTS: Battery type: LiPo LiFe (A123) RESULTS: Voltage for this calculation (avg):3,293/cell with a total of 9,879 |

A governor is a good option for constant head speed.

Wow thats a cool website. You dont use goveners on electric helis do you? I thought they where only for nitros. So you dont have a stunt mode jasmine?

You can use a governor if the ESC has it, but I haven't had good luck with them. I only fly in idle-up stunt mode - I don't use weird mode

Basically you spool up then once its at RPM you flick the switch and it stays there til you land...
That's the one thing I learned after I got my TRex 250 Set the Thro Curve To 100% Linear and and it'll fly much much better even regularly, hoverings even that much better. |

So you just keep the throttle curve at 100% And only adjust the pitch curve?Doesnt that make your head speed exsplode at 0 pitch?Ill have to try that .

I just let the soft start do it. If you look here you can see, the throttle hold switch is the top left, and the 3-pos switch on the face of the radio is already down, in mode 2 (stunt mode) - I just wait for the ESC to spool it up, then I go.
Bonus with this video too... a nice crash ![]()

What a lot of people do is run 100% on idle up 2 and 3, normal mode they will have either a straight linear throttle curve or a curve so that they can hover at about 50% throttle. Ideally when you switch from normal to idle up you don't want the extra head speed to cause your heli to jump way up you want it to be smooth.
I have my switches set so that in normal mode it will get me off the ground, once I'm off the ground I go to idle up which is a straight 100% across. |

With the ESC in governor mode I set normal mode throttle curves first point at 0, and the rest at the desired head speed. In Idleup I usually up the head speed a little bit, with the same number across the curve. Or a little higher on each end depending on the setup.
You can also use separate governor like on a nitro, it adds some setup issues like mounting the sensor. |
