Thanks for the offer olmod. I am after something a bit thinner .4mm or maybe .5mm. First time I have done any vacuum moulding. does .6mm thin out when stretched over the plug?
Thanks, Stuart |

Thinning does occur as i found out on an engine cowl wich was 90mm deep and around the same for the sides and because 2 corners were sharp 90deg right above that was where the .6mm holed.
i think more uniform heat around the edges would have worked better. what do you want to form? |

- A new canopy and side windows for my CMPRO Lancair - I don't like blue. ![]() - Side windows for a "to be scratch built" scale EDF cessna citation. - A clear canopy for my easyglider to house yet to be setup FPV Gear. - New canopy for my predator to replace the cracked and melted one. I was planning on doing all the vacuum forming at once while I am on a roll. I am going to need a full sheet so I think I better go buy some. Thanks, Stuart. |

In Sydney the following supply large sheet PTEG 1mm 1200 x 1800 for around $40:00.
www.plastix.com.au/ I have used it for vac forming with good results. |

Blenderm
I had no luck getting it in OZ. It's in only a few surgical supply catalogs. Doubt if you will find it anywhere retail (but I would love to be proved wrong). Easiest for me turned out to be mail order from one of the US micro flight suppliers. Postage is not much as it is light - and it's pretty indestructable even by AustraliaPost. Comes commonly in 2 sizes 1/2" and 1" width.

There's a couple of other replies below with suggestions but if you get stuck I got mine from Bob Selman
http://www.bsdmicrorc.com/index.php?productID=688 Nice people and very helpful. They will do the cheapest uninsured postage for something like this if you ask. As well as Dubro, Singapore Hobby Supplies package their own brand of nylon tape in 1" width but it's a bit expensive if you only get one roll posted. http://shop.singahobby.com/?q=node/18611 For tiny models, I'm using the standard surgical tape you can buy from any pharmacy. 3M's is called Micropore but there are other brands. it's the stuff people wrap around golf club handles etc. There's probably an excellent reason it isn't used by us modellers that I don't know about but I much prefer it for small models! It is much more flexible, goes on almost invisibly, sticks well to depron, seems plenty tough enough and it's cheap and easy to find anywhere. I'm talking 10"-15" span models here. Let us all know if you find a Blenderm supplier in OZ. Regards, John |
