Actually, the tree that took out Jason's F4 was a Palo Verde, and it was cut down the next week. So, there are NO obstructions on the dead line now.
The runway is for take off and landing only... definitely not for high speed passes. This has been a rule in R/C since it started 80 years ago. The new radar guns don't need to be in the middle of the high speed pass strip. When they radar'd my Starfire at E-Jets, I flew way over in the grass (not down the runway like the BVM crew). Two different radar guns showed virtually the same speed (1/10th of a MPH difference), and they were about 30 feet apart - with my plane easily 50+ feet from dead line. You don't need to be close anymore with modern radar guns. |

You guys sound like my students that ask me "Why did you give me an F?" when they turned nothing in all year. How hard is it to follow a single rule? If anything, think of the demonstration of skill that it takes to avoid the trees. Instead of crying about the rule become a better pilot and fly within the rule. And remember while you are calling people names that those same people are volunteering to put up with your abuse. How much abuse do you thing they will take before they quit and then the event is no more? Also along those lines, don't forget that every host club always has a set of members that are not happy that they can not fly at their field and are looking for any reason to stop an event from happening. Why would you want to hand them a reason on a silver platter? (We don't want those jet guys back, they are unsafe and might do something to lose the field for us.) Each time speed wars have gotten going at jet rallies we end up losing sites before people calm down. It happened with ICDF, it happened with Turbines, and unfortunately it is starting to happen with EDF. How many fields and events do we have to lose before people learn? Remember, the field is located on state land and this creates a big issue with keeping people safe. The state does not want to deal with a lawsuit because of some guys with toy airplanes. Last point. We are not entitled to have jet rallies. We are guests at someone else's home and they don't have to ask us back next year. I'm just asking everybody to think before acting. Usually when a teacher gave a lecture like this in college, I raised my hand, said what I had to say, then promptly got kicked out of class. Not now.
moparren: I respectfully submit that you are wrong with most of what you said. This is a jet event, as a matter of fact this is a specific jet event, not a park flyer electric plane event. This event even has a speed limit on the low end of the spectrum. The event has been very popular for many years and turbine jets fly very fast, that is a fact that everyone accepts. An EDF flying the same speed as a turbine is no worse, nor no better. Flying two passes, while alone in the sky, is not any more dangerous then a park flyer doing acrobatics while 5 other planes are flying in the same area at different speeds. If you insist on driving your car at or below the speed limit, please be courteous enough to pull in the right lane and let the rest of us pass safely. Your opinion is accepted respectfully, free speech shall prevail. Al |

Al,
Looking forward to seeing you again. Just bring the radar gun and we will use it. Plus I will bring my FAA certified eflux measuring device. It would be interesing to see static eflux and how it relates to top speed in the air. Matt Quote:

Would you believe this drama associated with the purchase of a simple sports radar gun.
This is a paragraph of the email that I just received in regard to the radar gun purchase. The darn thing is like a toy, based on the low price. "We are currently in the process of verifying the details of your order to ensure compliance with all United States federal, state and/or local government laws and regulations regarding the domestic sale of restricted products. Usually this process takes about 1-5 business days. During the review process, we may request information that will be needed to complete the review. Additionally, payment verification information may be requested to complete the processing of your order." Well when this verification is over I guess my top secret clearance will be restored...the one that I had 40 years ago. LOL... Big brother is now involved with possibly restricting people that purchase radar guns. Did you know that in some states, like AZ, people can carry side arms, also concealed weapons permits are handed out like driver's licenses. Yet, the feds are worried about radar guns. LOL Wine today during lunch...no more posting today..... |

Mostly I was ranting about bashing volunteers for attempting to enforce basic safety protocols. Hope that clears up my comments. Dave |

now if its on the pits side of the centerline, i can certainly understand that, or a 220mph 30 pound turbine model with a hot shot pilot, i can understand that too. these smaller edf's look tiny way out there!
sorry, i guess i was on a rampage. he was the same guy that told me i couldnt fly my bearcat after the jet event was over even though nobody was flying anything, and it was still light outside. that was pretty anoying. regardless of the rule inforcement, az jets is in my opinion one of the BEST jet events in the country. i cant wait to go! even if i will be making passes over the dirt! ![]() |

yeah, i dont see anybody inforcing that rule........at any jet event. too me that seems more dangerous...hmmm....2 lbs turbine with metal blades spinning at like 200,000 rpm, with a freakin' gallon of jet fuel going over 200mph...we saw what happens whe you hit a bush with one last year, it was pretty spactacular, and he was probably only going 170-180!

As humans we try our best to avoid accidents. As long as we try, that is important.
Somtimes bad stuff happens to good people, we try our best to avoid it, but fate is the determining factor and there is no clue as to what is next. AZ Jets is the subject...and I can't wait to smell the jet fuel, see the lipos being charged, and see the smiles on everyone's faces when XPS tries to show their beef.
