Hi DLG Guys, I need a bit of help ;)

Hello to all DLG guys

I'm a slope pilot, but summer at my slope often means huge thermals rolling in, but none or little wind at all.

Problem is, these thermals are often quite far from the slope/launch site.

I'd like plans for a nice DLG, small and portable, that does not require ultra micro RX's, but will be quite happy on a small battery and HXT900 blue servos.

I'd like something I can discus launch quite hard, to gain lots of altitude.

Sufficient aileron and rudder throw for some acro... In other words, endless fun.

I have a vac system. I also have EZ-LAM epoxy resin, 6oz cloth, and lots of carbon tow. It is very hard to get cloth lighter than 6oz, although sometimes I can get 4oz.

I am a scratch builder. I'm 15, so I cannot afford the prices of modern DLGs, and I live in South America, so buying an Alula or a small DLG from the states is very difficult.

Thanks a lot!
-Alex

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply!

There seems to be something wrong with the link. I searched for Tabooish using the search function but did not get much...

Hi Phil, thanks for the reply!

Where can I get the plans for the Tabooish?

I read through the build and it seems pretty straightforward.

Alex,
the mimi can be built on a budget and you likely already have all the materials you need other than the boom. luckily, all the balsa comes from South America, so you can have the pick of the litter if you need to pick some up. the mimi is a 1m span glider and launches well and flies even better. dont be put off by its simplicity. it really flies great! the glider guru up in Northern California flies it in many contests, local and regional, and does quite well with it. it angers me that he beats me with it, being that it likely cost him less than $100 total when my glider is well over five times that.

here are some links to the mimi:

i would make the extra poly break in the wing the same way Bob McGowan did. i think the extra poly break makes it groove in thermal turns a little better. the only hitch is that the mimi is only rudder/elevator, and doesnt have ailerons so acro flying will be a bit limited.

good luck on the scratch build.
cheers
paul

The MIMI is neat but it was a nightmare to bring it up to size. My first try was with the regular sized paper off my printer, then I took a dimention off the rib and found hthe chord length was 5mm short, this was after I taped the whole thing together. So then I enlarged it to size and taped it together again, I'm very glad it's a dimentioned drawing. My friend Ray Kostuk darn near has his done, he sent me the plan's. A few of us are going to try to all build the same 1m span A/C, and have some fun. Good luck with your's.
