Changing ESC wire lengths??

I know I read about it somewhere, but can't find it. The battery to ESC wire lengths should not be changed over a certain amount without capacitor additions. How long does the change have to be? How long can the series connectors be before trouble??

I also read that the motor leads can be removed from the ESC and the motor leads can be soldered direct to where the wires were removed. Is this correct??

I'm using two motor/ESC combos, with the same batteries.
Common Sense 8C 6000mAh 10S (5Sx2)
E-Flite Power 110 w Phoenix 85HV in Great Planes P-6E 15lbs.
E-Flite Power 160 w Phoenix 110HV on the same batteries in Top Flight Staggerwing 21lbs.

Reading the threads about squealing over half throttle, my Power 110/Phx 85HV is doing the same thing after last update. (Plane has plenty of power to fly on half throttle.) Update was done late Sept. Before that, the motor would cut out when above half throttle. Back to idle to reset, and it powered fine to half throttle.

The Power 160 seems under powered. (It has the motor wires shortened as in question above.) Will try new softwares on both when I get chance to work on them. Also have new Impulse 4800mAh 20C 5S (X2) batteries to try.

"While the discussions on lead length are interesting, I doubt that had anything to do with this [failure]."
