I am building this kit on a 30" by 30" piece of Dow
ceilling tile ( takes pins well ) on top of a vanity table ( my wife does
not use it :>) ) The kit has 65 laser cut parts, tab / notched so it goes
together pretty fast and true. SPECS: 35" span, wing load 7.2 oz./ sq.' ,
flying weight 9 to 11 oz, 280 class direct drive motor. I believe I only
paid $30 for the kit from Tower Hobbies.

I soloed one in 1955 (nostalgic sigh) at an airport in Genoa, Texas
while I was stationed at Ellington AFB in Houston (hot, humid) during
navigator training, and I guess a J-3 will have to be a next model plane
to keep up with all you youngsters! It was a week after I soloed an
Aircoupe, with coordinated aileron and rudder, and my conscience
bothered me enough to have to prove I could fly a "real" plane without
coupled aileron and rudder.

I solved any problems I was having with wheel landings when tricycle
gear models (full scale, that is) came on the scene - nary a problem
after that :-)

I, too, soloed in a J-3. To get instruction I'd ride my bicycle to the
airport and polish planes for dual time. That was way back in '44. I have
owned & leased several light full scale planes in my time. My favorite was
a Cessna 170B tail dragger. I retired from flying full scale in 1985 after
a quad by-pass operation.

Strangrly, I've never built a model of a Cub. All of your posts have
encouraged me along this line.

My modeling time is pretty full from designing rather than flying now. I'm
working on a series I hope to offer plans and laser cut short kits. I think
I'll have to add a cub to my list of projects.

I also noticed that just a few expressions that Eflight was dieing on the
line that it picked up interest and postings. I'm glad. I read my email
EVERY day and do enjoy Eflight.

I have built 4 J3s. 2 GPs, a Clip wing Sig, and a CG. Solod in a
Taylorcraft in 1940 and in a Cub in 1946. (first license expired due to other
commitments) All models are electric, first was belt drive graupner 700, (now
deseased) . the current crop --Astro 40sg, astro15 g and Axi 4120/14. I have found
they are a difficult plane to fly. If Mike sees this, I suggest you fly like
the 40hp full scale. Dont let it take off too soon. Keep tail down until gets
moving, then nose down till up to speed, then at lift off keep low until full
speed, and then gentle climb out.If you find it ground loops, move the
landing gear rearward. Ted in AZ

I've got a 1/3 Balsa USA being framed up now. I guess this would be my 6th or 7th Cub I've built for myself or someone else. First big one though.... oh what fun in a room that used to be a 10 X 12 bedroom.

Never mind, sold the plane because of it's size. I guess the man who bought it was happier the all get out to get this because I had the wings done. Now I hope I get my $500.00... LOL
